Health IT Success Story:
Cape Cod Healthcare
In 2016, MeHI awarded Cape Cod Healthcare (CCHC) $430,000 for a two-year project to connect to the Mass HIway and manage the electronic transfer of clinical information between hospitals and community health centers or post-acute care providers whenever a patient is discharged. The project addressed many barriers involving clinical documentation standards and direct messaging. Looking forward, CCHC is expanding the project to other organizations throughout Cape Cod, allowing CCHC to access real-time medical information for all patients immediately upon admission. Adoption and Utilization
Support (HAUS) Services
The Mass HIway , the Massachusetts Health Information Exchange, now offers HIway Adoption and Utilization Support (HAUS) Services to help organizations deploy electronic health information exchange (HIE) to enhance care coordination. There are two tracks available to receive HAUS Services :

  • HAUS for MassHealth Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs), Community Partners (CPs), and Community Service Agencies (CSAs), in partnership with MassHealth
 
  • HAUS for other healthcare organizations that need to meet the connection requirement established by the Mass HIway Regulations (101 CMR 20.00)

Organizations participating on either track will receive HAUS Services free of charge.
Medicaid Updates
MAPIR is now accepting Program Year 2018 submissions.
 
Please review the  2018 Supporting Documentation Requirements  (SDR) prior to submitting applications and take these steps to avoid common mistakes:

  • Print and use the 2018 SDR as a checklist;
  • Visit MeHI's website to find and apply the correct CHIP for your selected Patient Volume Threshold reporting period;
  • Use the PVT Calculator to ensure accurate patient volumes;
  • Confirm the use of up-to-date forms as documents may have been revised;
  • Monitor your EPs' MU Dashboards to verify thresholds are met; and
  • Conduct a Security Risk Analysis or Review for your organization prior to the end of the 2018 calendar year.

Following on last year’s successful event, the Aging and Caregiving Digital Health Reverse Pitch event will connect entrepreneurs and aging services providers to address pressing problems in caregiving. At this event, a panel of key players in the aging services sector will discuss opportunities for entrepreneurs and innovators to design technologies to help seniors and their caregivers. Panelists include   Andy Miller , Senior Vice President of Innovation and Product Development at AARP, Chetan Parekh , Associate Brand Director and Innovation Portfolio Leader at Procter & Gamble, Leigh Anne Capello , Senior Vice President of Brand Strategy and Marketing at Benchmark Senior Living, and Peter Ross , CEO and Co-Founder of Senior Helpers. After the panel presentation, entrepreneurs and others in the audience can ask questions, offer recommendations, and connect directly with these key players and others.

MU and HIE Workshops
We invite you to join us at our upcoming Meaningful Use (MU) and health information exchange (HIE) Workshops. Over the course of two sessions, we will present the fundamentals of change management and process improvement, and discuss how healthcare organizations can apply these strategies to:
 
  • better integrate technology;
  • improve clinical workflows;
  • achieve MU objectives;
  • incorporate HIE technologies like the Mass HIway; and
  • manage the electronic health information they send and receive.

In an effective organization, leadership happens at all levels. This course is intended for anyone who participates in, influences, or leads HIE and MU projects: clinical and IT managers, care providers, designees, analysts, and other staff.

In Part One, we will conduct team exercises to support the concepts and for participants to get to know each other. In Part Two, you will work with other participants to map several MU or HIE workflows based on what you have learned.

Healthy Aging Innovation Challenge Alert:
Accepting Submissions!
Earlier this month, a group of industry, academic, and government partners announced In Good Company: The Optimal Aging Challenge ,  a $20,000 competition to improve healthy aging in Massachusetts by leveraging the development of breakthrough technologies, community resources, and other solutions to reduce social isolation and loneliness and increase engagement among older populations.
 
Organized in collaboration with GE Healthcare, MIT’s Age Lab, Benchmark Senior Living, and Governor Charlie Baker’s Council to Address Aging in Massachusetts , t he challenge seeks ideas or technologies that fall within at least one of four pillars: caregiving, transportation, housing, and employment.

Mass HIway Updates
Mass HIway 2.0 Migration
The Mass HIway Operations Team plans to migrate all HIway Participants from the legacy HIway to the new and improved HIway 2.0 environment over the next year.

The Mass HIway website has been updated to include important instructions to initiate the migration process, information about HIway 2.0 enhancements and features, and additional resources. Click here to view a tutorial on how to complete the necessary HIway 2.0 migration forms.
