Chef Joe's Opinion on why you should suport your local bussness
Times are tough and the tough get going, but does that do small independent businesses any good? Of course, we want to get the best price during these difficult economic times, but at what expense! Independent businesses are struggling to stay open, while consumers appear to be supporting national chains and big businesses. We (independent businesses) don't have the luxury of reducing costs, creating buy one- get one free ads, or whatever to keep our customers coming. Let me paint a picture for you! Look around, people, businesses are closing left and right and the one thing those businesses have in common is that they are all SMALL BUSINESSES! That's right! The pure backbone of America! What got this country out of the Depression? SMALL BUSINESSESS-the same small businesses that hired your children, your brothers and sisters, your grandparents, husbands, wives! But today all that is heard is, "They will be alright. You will survive". Well, only if you support us!!! Just consider this---a national chain can entice you to support their business even when they may not offer you quality service or give you what you want; but an independent small business (like Melange) is usually there to answer your concerns, provide you with optimal service, and give you what you want to make you happy! My friends, national chains and big businesses in our neighborhoods continue to displace independent, locally-owned businesses. As I look around some of the communities close to my home and more importantly, the Haddonfield area, I am saddened by the loss of small businesses, particularly, those that have been household family- owned establishments for decades. Why is this happening? We could make the excuse that the economy is the reason for these losses, but the reality is that consumers are not supporting small, independent businesses in a way that is advantageous to their survival. The disappearance of local restaurants, in particular, digs deep into the pride of small communities. Sometimes, local officials (I am not speaking of Haddonfield!) fall prey to the political appeal and seduction of luring large restaurants to their communities. Tax rebates and other incentives (such as jobs) are enticing to their decisions, but the impact this has on independent businesses is many times devastating and results in some closings. What needs to occur is quite simple. If we want our communities to thrive, to keep that sense of community, to grow our community financially, to keep taxpayer money in our communities, it's time to support your local businesses. It has been argued that national chains have little allegiance to the community it has settled in. Well in my opinion, a small town with character is usually shaped by its quaint shops, family-owned neighborhood stores, its many memorable restaurants, and its happy residents. Keep small businesses in your communities by supporting them!
After all, it's a matter of opinion!

Ca' Furlan Prosecco Cuve Beatrice NV
Boasting a beautiful nose reminiscent of marzipan and white flowers, the wine leads into peach notes and brioche on the palate. A fantastic value for a sparkling wine.
Staff Pick $14.99 per Bottle!
Domaine de la Pauline Sancerre 2010
Mainly planted on chalky stony soils, this white Sancerre is very typical: dry, fruity and concentrated, full-bodied in mouth. To optimize fruit flavors, yields are reduced on all plots of sauvignon, then after the harvest, the wine is matured on its lees until February. Several successive tastings determine the best time for the bottling. This is classic Sancerre, with a powerful nose, fruity and concentrated. Good attack in the mouth, fresh fruit and citrus aromas. The finish is long and aromatic. Staff Pick $29.99 per Bottle!
Nicodemi Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 2009
"The 2009 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is a delicious wine bursting with dark fruit. Flowers, sweet herbs and spices add complexity on the round, textured finish. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2014."

Tanner Street Work: up date!
Well, it's been since October of 2010 that the Tanner Street project has been going on. We now have a portion of the street paved, but not totally finished. You are now able to park on Tanner Street Hooray! Watch out for those meters! They will be coming sooner than you think. Don't worry about the lights; They only check the meters during the day right ! (smile)
Hey, much, too much needs to be done. Come on people, this is our tax dollars, right !. The impact of this project has been devastating to all of us! We need your support! Your voice may be the answer to our problems.Call the township office! This is a sense of urgency that needs your help NOW! By the way, thanks to all who have sent the message so far! It looks like we are getting some movement! Whew!
In any case, don't let this project stop you from dining with us and visiting the other businesses in the area. Public parking is still available at the back entrance. Again, I apologize, in advance, for any inconvenience this may cause. Don't forget, I will be working on the food, so come in soon!
And, as always, we are happy to see you!
Thank you for your support,
Chef Joe
