We are getting ready for the new production of Puccini's Madama Butterfly to be presented at SMDCAC on April 8 and 9. Rehearsals are in process and every artist is enjoying preparing the opera good spirit and enthusiasm.
The next is the third reposition of Butterfly since we initiated operating around fifteen ago. In this occasion we are pleased to present an exciting new cast and scenery at the beautiful environment that offers South Miami Dade Cultural Arts Center. We hope to see there most of our friends opera fans who would definitely enjoy such beautiful event as one of the most loved opera by Giacomo Puccini.
With regret I would like to update you on some changes in the opera's program for the present season. After a careful consideration we have decided once again to postpone the presentation of Donizetti's La Favorita mainly due to budget restrictions. Recent policies and economic events forces us to postpone the realization of such important production. We will pursue in our efforts to give Miami Dade's audience the opportunity appreciate this great Donizetti's opera as premier in the area.
The next production of the season will now be Il Barbiere di Siviglia
(The barber of Seville) by Gioacchino Rossini assuring the collaboration of International artists in the principal roles including Mezzo Soprano Leyla Martinucci, Baritone Nicola Ziccardi and wonderful group of local singers soon to be confirmed. As usual, MLO will also include in our production, promising young artists part of our artist development program..The scenery will be provided by by Ettore Sormani from Italy coordinated by Robert Stivanello from New York.
Back to Madama Butterfly, here are some notes of interest. Nathalie Avila will make her debut as Cio Cio San (Butterfly). Ms. Avila returns after her recent success in the title role of our 2016 Tosca production. Lieutenant Pinkerton will be portrayed by tenor Emanuel-Cristian Caraman, who previously appeared in Amico Fritz. Making his debut in the role of the American Consul in Nakasaki is Miami baritone Armando Naranjo, appearing for second time at MLO after his successful performance as Alfio in our 2016 Cavalleria Rusticana. Suzuki, the loyal servant of Cio Cio San, will be interpreted by mezzo soprano Lissette Jimenez, well known by our public for her many previous MLO performances, most recently the role Rosina in Rossini's Barber of Seville. Pablo Hernandez is in charge of a revitalized chorus and the orchestra will be conducted by the gifted Maestro Jeffrey Eckstein.
Once again, I wish to appeal to your generosity to support MLO. .
Thank you very much for your support.
Sincerely,
Raffaele Cardone
