Migrant Legal Aid Attorneys Deliver  Anti-inflammatory Bottled Water and Free Legal Advice to Flint










Flint, MI.  Sunday, July 27, despite sporadic rain, Grand Rapids based MLA organized a truckload of bottled water for Flint area residents through Our Lady of Guadalupe and St. Mary's Churches.  Pallets of Halo Water were donated, trucked, and off-loaded by Grand Rapids companies and volunteers, in collaboration with Flint area legal services (LSEM and CCJ). 


Migrant Legal Aid's Fair Food Project Prepares to Reveal Major Grocery Partner
Later this month, a major grocery retailer will announce its participation in the first-of-it's-kind Michigan Fair Food Project.    MLA set a goal of 100 stores participating in the Listen ear hear survey people person secretpledge by  December, 2016.  The pledge  is intended to support the ethical and humane treatment of farmworkers  who harvest produce for grocers.  MLA also assisted with the Spanish translation of the Fair Food Network 's double up bucks program, which  provides bridge card holders with free fruits and vegetables at a various retailers.

Farmworker Women:  Protect them from Sex Harrassment or Pay Millions
Two celery harvesters who claimed they were sexually harassed at work reached a $1 million settlement against a labor contractor after a jury found in their favor.
A funding bill  (H.R. 5538)  for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Interior Department is receiving pushback, including one that would strip funding for parts of the  Agricultural Worker Protection Standard (WPS) , which establishes many protections for those in the country who experience the highest and most dangerous pesticide exposure - farmworkers.
The CIRI Advocacy Working Group released a 4-Year report on DACA, "DACA After United States v. Texas: Recommendations for the President."  Farmworker Justice is a member of the CIRI Advocacy Working Group.  
A team of college students has developed a new app aimed at increasing safety and productivity for farmers and farmworkers by using climate sensors. ..
More than 300 farm laborers crowded into a downtown Spanish-language radio station to celebrate victory in a class-action lawsuit affirming their rights as workers and to receive payments from a $1 million settlement in the case.
