Dear MBPPC Worship Community,
Congratulations on the election of MBPPC’s next pastor, Ben Drew! Pastor Ben will start at MBPPC on February 1 and my last day serving as your Interim Pastor will be January 31st. I will probably say it many times over the next three months, but I have been honored to serve as your pastor during this interim season. It can be tempting to see an interim season as a “holding pattern” or lost time, but the Biblical witness is actual opposite. Transition seasons are often times of deep growth, of identity formation or at least renewal of one’s identity and the community’s discovery about God’s faithfulness and ability to provide. Think of the Israelites in the book of Exodus for example. They learned…
- God is with us every step of the way.
- God provides bread — manna to eat, and clear water flowing from solid rock.
- God invites us into deeper relationships with one another and with the Trinity.
I thank God for your faithfulness in this season. We have continued to gather together and worship, to meet in Bible studies, to serve our neighbors, and to reach out to our community. I am grateful to all of you for the many ways we have put the gospel in action:
- Preparing dinners at Operation Nightwatch
- Stocking a snack/water table at the church for Metro bus drivers
- Stocking the free pantry at Hope Central
- Making sandwiches for those who are hungry
- Cleaning and organizing the church
- Serving coffee and pastries to Lake and Park families on the first day of school
- Graciously saying goodbye to staff and welcoming new staff on board
- Showing up at the Mt Baker Park Festival this year
- Reaching out to children and families through Summer Bible Adventure and the Chorister program
This list doesn’t even begin to encapsulate all of the ministry that God allowed us to do together this year. And there is still more to come this fall and Christmas season.
- Choristers singing in the service this Sunday
- Coming alongside Hope Central to help them throw their annual Christmas party
- Ai and Faith conversation on November 3
- Fall Harvest Luncheon on November 15
- Advent Choral offering 12/13
- Jazz Vespers followed by hot coco and carol on the patio at MBPPC 12/20
- Christmas Pageant 12/20
- Christmas Eve Service at 5pm
I thank God that you have been faithful in your financial support of MBPPC through this transition. In the book of Philippians Paul thanks the community for their support, “I have been paid in full and have more than enough; I am fully satisfied, now that I have received…the gifts you sent, a fragrant offering, a sacrifice acceptable and pleasing to God.” Paul continues, “God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:18-19). This is kingdom economics.
Now I ask you to be joyfully generous, knowing that there is great freedom in giving. Sometimes we make commitments first, and then the feelings follow. This has certainly been true in my life as it pertains to giving. Making the commitment to give away financial resources has done a kind of spiritual surgery on my heart (and it is ongoing), helping me live with more joy and trust and with less fear and anxiety. I am still on a journey and have by no means arrived, but would you join me in practicing the way of Jesus? A tithe which was 10% of income/belongings, was one way that people sought to engage in generous living (Gen. 14:20). I would encourage you to think, pray and talk with other about how you would like to respond to the gospel (good news) of grace. This Sunday, you will find a card that you can use to indicate your commitments for 2026-2027. The Session has carefully thought about how to invite you into these ministry opportunities.
Thank you for your partnership. “I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 1:3-6)

It is time for the 7th Annual MBPPC Ping Pong Baseball Tournament. Grown men and women, along with children of all ages, are welcome to participate in a most unusual round of America’s favorite past time, with a slight twist. We play baseball (over hand pitching) with a ping pong ball and paddle. This was something invented in 1965 on a hot summer day at Farnsworth Park in Altadena, California (ask Ben for the details). Just like whiffle ball, but with a smaller ball and bat (paddle). First pitch is THIS Saturday, October 24 at 12 noon in the church basement. No gloves necessary.
All aboard the Galship! The next meeting of the Galship will be today, October 25, after coffee hour. We will make gift bags for sample-sized toiletries to be given out by Operation Nightwatch. You can also make gift bags and gift boxes for your own use. Our meeting is open to anyone from the congregation who wants to join us.
Sign up to visit with Jerry. Our own Jerry Daggett is recovering in a rehabilitation facility. As members and friends, visitng with Jerry is a blessing on his path to healing. Youth Group Opportunity for MBPPC Teens: The Table
Remember Rev. Phil Lewis of Union Presbyterian Church, who served as our guest preacher on July 5? During that service, two MBPPC youth shared their positive experiences with The Table, Union's inclusive and affirming youth group for middle and high school students. Three MBPPC youth have participated so far, including two who joined a summer service-learning trip to the Yakama Nation!
The Table meets Sundays at 7 PM in South Lake Union, bringing together teens from across Seattle to grow in faith, friendship, and service.Click to learn more about The Table. Interested in attending or coordinating a carpool with other MBPPC families? Contact Stephanie Scott at 206-999-4341, Pastor Andrea, or Pastor Phil.

Community Happens Here!
At Mt Baker Park Presbyterian Church, our building is more than a place for Sunday worship. It is also a place where people from our community can gather for encouragement, support, and connection.
We are grateful to welcome several community partners, including
-
Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), which supports individuals seeking recovery from alcohol addiction;
-
Al-Anon, which offers support to family members and friends affected by someone else’s drinking; and
-
Co-Dependents Anonymous (CoDA), which helps individuals develop healthier relationships, boundaries, and patterns of behavior.
Each week, these groups create an atmosphere of honesty, healing, growth, and hope. We are glad MBPPC can be a welcoming space where this important work takes place.
If you or someone you know is in need of the support of any of these groups, all of the weekly meeting are open to everyone.

| "Seasonings" of Thanksgiving Fall Devotional | |
Week 3:
Rosemary: Fragrance of Grace
““For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish.” -2 Corinthians 2:15
Theme: A grateful life spreads the fragrance of God's love to others.
Rosemary has a fragrance that is difficult to miss. Whether it's used with roasted vegetables, meats, or freshly baked bread, its aroma fills the space around it.
Our lives also leave something behind.
Our attitude, our conversations, and the way we treat others create an atmosphere.
When we are filled with gratitude, kindness becomes easier to extend, patience becomes more intentional, and generosity becomes a natural expression of our faith.
Thanksgiving should not only change how we feel about our own blessings. It should change how we treat the people around us.
Reflection: What kind of spiritual fragrance am I leaving in my home, church, workplace, and community?
Weekly Challenge: Perform three intentional acts of kindness or encouragement without expecting anything in return.
Prayer Focus: Lord, let my life reflect the beautiful fragrance of Your grace.
