We are a church that rolls up our sleeves and gets to work.
We do God's work in the world--restoring and reconciling communities--not because God needs us to do so, but because our neighbor does. We pursue justice and seek peace no matter how long the journey or wide the chasm.
We Walk Together
The synod staff will pray for these congregations and rostered leaders during their next weekly staff meeting. We invite you to include them in your prayers this week as well.
St. John's Lutheran Church, Eau Claire, Pastor Christine Emerson
First Lutheran Church, Bruce, Pastor Larry Sturgis
Grace and Zion Lutheran Churches, Frederic, Pastor Roger Pittman

God's work. Our hands. The folks at Good Shepherd in Ashland donned their favorite team apparel and set out to tackle hunger on Super Bowl Sunday. During worship, youth participated in a skit, sang and collected money in team-labeled stock pots. The money was donated to the local food pantry, BRICK. After worship, they enjoyed soup and desserts. |

ELCA News
Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton has requested that The Lutheran magazine distribute her monthly column to synod communicators, to share with congregations, in hopes of increasing awareness of the issues she raises in her columns. Feel free to share this! We just ask that the credit line "This column originally appeared in the ________ issue of The Lutheran. Reprinted with permission" appear each time the column is distributed.
Needle barely moved on ELCA becoming a diverse church
Consider this: how many of you are left-handed? Of those of you who are, how many times a day are you reminded that you are left-handed? At every meal when you sit next to a right-handed person and bump elbows? When you use scissors? When you write? When you shake hands?
Now, how many of you are right-handed? Chances are you never have to think about being right-handed. Most of us are right-handed. The world is set up for right-handed people. This isn't necessarily bad. It just is. The problem starts when the practical application of an economy of scale slides into a value judgment, when the majority's physical characteristic shifts from an objective fact to a subjective model of what is proper and good.
