In one intense day in July, 44 NYCPM students and half a dozen faculty members from the Departments of Surgery, Medicine and Orthopedics conducted research at the 2017 West Point Boot Fit and Foot Structure Study, fitting boots to and analyzing the feet of 1150 new cadets at the historic military academy.
NYCPM podiatrists, each with a student scribe, analyze cadets' feet. From left to right: Dr. Robert Eckles with Sercan Ture (2019); Dr. Loretta Logan with Chung Him Tse (2019); and Dr. Anthony Iorio with William Etts (2020).

Laurence Lowy, Professor and Dean, Celebrated at Retirement
Waves of NYCPM faculty and staff crowded into the retirement party for Laurence J. Lowy, DPM, who retired in late June after 23 years at the College. Dr. Lowy was Professor of Pediatrics and Dean for Student Services before voluntarily retiring in 2015
At his retirement party, Dr. Lowy (center) shows off the gift he received with Louis L. Levine, left, President and CEO of NYCPM, and Joel Sturm, right, COO of the College.
and becoming Advisory Dean for Student Services. He arrived at NYCPM in 1994 to teach, and became course director for Podopediatrics, a title he held until 2015. He became Dean for Student Services in 2007. A respected clinician, lecturer, and colleague, Dr. Lowy devoted himself as dean to improving the student experience at NYCPM, from orientation and the White Coat Ceremony to commencement.
At the party there were tears and cheers, the fondness for Dr. Lowy obvious to all. His parting gift from NYCPM was a framed, authenticated composite of animation cels of some of the best known characters from Fleischer Studios, including Betty Boop, Popeye the Sailor and Koko the Clown. Dr. Lowy, a film buff, was greatly moved by the gift as well as the emotion of the moment.
