Students Screen Special Olympics Athletes at Metro Games at Queens College

Eight NYCPM students recently participated in the Healthy Athletes and Fit Feet Program at the Metro Games at Queens College, part of the Special Olympics of New York, as volunteer doctors screening for foot deformities among the athletes involved. The Fit Feet Program gathers data that, it is hoped, will ultimately provide the athletes with appropriate shoes, better socks and foot care education. Foot Center of New York Steps Out with NHEMA

Future doctors of podiatric medicine spread the word about the importance of foot health care on June 20th at a mini-street fair beneath the Metro North tracks at 125th Street and Park Avenue sponsored by the New Harlem East Merchants Association (NHEMA).  Representing the New York College of Podiatric Medicine (NYCPM) and its clinical teaching affiliate the Foot Center of New York (FCNY), the students distributed flyers and provided information about services to the community. NYCPM/FCNY are members of NHEMA, which has implemented a major East Harlem initiative for the current and future refurbishment of 125th Street east of 5th Avenue.  Staffing the Foot Center of New York's table were, l. to r.: Gireesh Reddy, Brittany Mayer, Zakiyyah Waters, Juanita Rufran, Victoria Vo, Rusheena Bartlett. 

Michael J. Trepal, DPM, Presents at Symposium 

Michael J. Trepal, DPM, Vice-President for Academic Affairs and Dean of NYCPM, presented a paper, "Wound Care Basics for the Interventionalist," on June 11 at the Endovascular Symposium at Mt. Sinai, part of a multi-day symposium. All members of the Classes of 2016, 2017, and 2018 and the entire faculty were invited. Members of the Class of 2015 who attended Dr. Trepal's presentation included, left to right, Gregory Sutton, Adrian Wright, Ross Senter, and Justin Donovan.

The Lower Extremity and Systemic Disease

is a new textbook being edited by Rock G. Positano, DPM, MSc, MPH, Deputy Chairman of the NYCPM Board of Trustees (Hospital for Special Surgery); Michael J. Trepal, DPM, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean, NYCPM; Jeffrey Borer, MD (SUNY Downstate Medical Center); and Christopher W. DiGiovanni, MD (Harvard).
