NAC ISD HONORS TEACHERS OF THE YEAR AND RETIREES AT ANNUAL END OF YEAR BREAKFAST
Nacogdoches ISD honored district and campus teachers of the year, as well as its 2016 retirees and the Anne K. Wallace award winner during its annual end-of-the-year employee breakfast on Friday at Nacogdoches High School.

The  district wide  Elementary Teacher of the Year Award was presented to Rosalind Deckard of Brooks-Quinn-Jones Elementary, while Amanda Bankston of McMichael Middle School received Secondary Teacher of the Year honors.  Both also received teacher of the year for their respective campuses.

The Anne K. Wallace Excellence in Teaching Award, established by the late teacher's family, presents $1,000 in recognition of an outstanding teacher dedicated to instruction and teaching. Anali  Segura from Nacogdoches High School received the honor for 2016.

UNIT 65 PRODUCTIONS DELIVER SUMMER READING BOOKS TO CARPENTER
On May 29, Unit 65 Productions presented a FREE Music Festival at Millard's Crossing from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. This festival served as a book drive fundraiser for Carpenter students.

Unit 65 Productions is a small group of musicians, college students and volunteers that wanted to do something to help local schools.

Several bands of multiple genres played.

There was no entrance fee, but a minimum of one children's book (new or gently used) per person was requested. The books were collected and distributed to the students of Carpenter so they may take them home to read over the summer.

Read- alouds  took place on the front porches of the buildings at Millard's Crossing during the bands' set changes. There was an Instrument Petting Zoo for children, Kids' Yoga and other fun activities!

HEALTHY SUMMER MEALS FOR KIDS

When the school year ends, summer meals begin! Nacogdoches ISD summer meals begin June 6, 2016.

For more than 20 years, Nacogdoches ISD student nutrition has worked each weekday -through the hottest months- to ensure more than 1,400 students receive balanced meals a day. In the summer of 2015, approximately 21,185,583 meals were served through the Texas Summer Meals Program.

Through the Texas Department of Agriculture and the United States Department of Agriculture, the Nacogdoches ISD program provides meals to children ages 18 and younger at 24 sites across Nacogdoches.

While the children are gathered at select sites, they will have the opportunity to expand their reading skills with the Nacogdoches Rotary Club Mobile Library.

Our children need nutritious meals to learn, grow and thrive - even when school is out. With the Summer Food Service Program children and teens can continue to eat healthy throughout the summer at no cost, just by showing up at a participating meal site.

"Parents can trust that their children will have a nutritious meal, and it will help stretch out their summer dollars as it is free to all children 18 and under," said Robin Thacker, Director of Student Nutrition and Teresa Morales The Summer Food Program Coordinator.

For more information, call the Student Nutrition office at 936-569-3125.

Graduation is a time of completion,
of finishing, of an ending, however,
it is also a time of celebration
of achievement and a beginning
for the new graduate.
