Community Halloween Party

The Club will be closed on Friday, October 28th as we join the Nantucket Fire Department to put on our annual Community Halloween Party. From 5:00pm-7:00pm the Club will be open to the public for a Haunted House, games and prizes for all ages, along with other activities throughout the Club. In order to do our best to accommodate everyone's tolerance for spoooookiness, from 5:00pm-6:00pm we will cater to younger children and those of us who don't want quite the same level of heebie-jeebies as others! But don't fret- for those of you who like a good scare, from 6:00pm-7:00pm we will be AMPING UP the fear factor!

Admission is FREE for everyone (you do NOT have to be a Club member to attend)!
Parents, please note- the Club will be closed for the evening. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Please, no drop offs!

REMINDER: The Club will not be open after school tomorrow, Friday, October 28, 2016. The Club will only be open from 5:00-7:00pm for our Halloween Party.

Thank you to Hanley Development!

Thank you to Jay Hanley and his crew at Hanley Development for making our Gaga Pit dreams a reality! Also, big thanks to Marine Home Center for donating the lumber to help make this project happen. Our members LOVE it!

For those of you wondering - Gaga Ball is a fast paced sport played in an octagonal pit with soft foam balls, a sort of modified version of dodgeball. Our members are CRAZY for Gaga!

Nantucket Atheneum Presents...
Acrobat Li Liu: Traditions of Chinese Acrobatics
We are so happy to be a part of the Nantucket Atheneum's, "Atheneum on the Road!" program. On Friday, November 4th, we are proud to be hosting Acrobat Li Liu here in the gym at the Club.
The program will include demonstrations of hand balancing, plate spinning, artistic cycling, foot juggling, ribbon dancing, and the manipulation of Chinese water bowls and Chinese yo-yos. Students will get a glimpse of Chinese culture and learn a few phrases in Li Liu's native Mandarin.
Club members will be given the chance to volunteer to be selected to attempt a few of the easier (and safer!) acrobatic skills. Students will learn the historical significance of traditional lion and dragon dances, as Li encourages them to think about what it might have been like to grow up in a different time and place and what can be accomplished through disciplined training.
The event will begin at 3:00pm, don't miss out!

Fall Program Updates
Starting on Monday, November 7th, we will be participating in the Nantucket Ice, "Kids on Ice" program. Each Monday we will take a field trip to the rink, where kids will get FREE skate rentals and ice time. Please see Doreen for more information.

We are excited to announce, in partnership with the Nantucket Music Center, we are bringing back our weekly music lessons here at the Club. This is such a wonderful opportunity for Club members to learn the fundamental skills of playing an instrument, from trained music instructors. Be on the lookout for more details, to come soon!

Each month our staff recognizes a member (11 year or younger and a youth (12 years and up) who exemplifies a "Club kid"- someone who is kind, abides by Club rules, helps other Club members and staff members, participates in Club activities and who is well rounded. Here are our October Member and Youth of the Month!

Julia has been nominated for Member of the Month for October 2016! Julia is 8 years old and in 2nd grade at NES.  She has been a member of the Club since 2015.  Julia dabbles in many club activities -  You can find her quietly and dubiously doing her homework in the Learning Center, playing her favorite game of bumper pool in the Games Room, or playing dodgeball in the Gym or painting in the Art Room.   Julia has a quiet and sensitive soul and will lend a helping hand or provide kind gestures for anyone in need.  She is funny, smart, sweet and has three older siblings.    Her favorite food is macaroni, her favorite book is Pigeon, her favorite color is aqua and her favorite movie is Minions.
