FIRST LEGO League Club

Returned this year is the FIRST LEGO League, taking place in the Learning Center with Danny - a Club which promotes science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in a variety of different ways. The FIRST LEGO League is a program which researches and learns about various issues facing scientists today such as food safety, recycling, energy, etc. and will work to develop solutions. Most recently, the Club is participating in the "Trash Trek" challenge - members will learn about collection, sorting, smart production and the reuse of trash.
Members work to design, build, test, and program a robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS technology. By applying real-world math and science concepts, members work to use computer programming to build different commands for their robot. Once the robot has been programmed, they will work to command the robot through a variety of tasks on a specially made table top playing mat.
FIRST LEGO League is for children ages 10-13 and meets in the Learning Center every Wednesday from 6:00-7:00 and Thursday from 5:00-6:00. Talk to Danny in the Learning Center for more information!

Thank you Nantucket Atheneum!

Again this year, the Nantucket Atheneum has offered a series of entertaining shows and experiences for our Club members. The first of the series of three acts was Scott Jameson, a magician and juggler. The kids were in awe as they watched him perform and were even able to participate in some parts of the act!
The most recent performance, showcased Bamidele Dancers & Drummers. They put on an amazing show of celebratory dances, rhythms, folklore, and songs from West Africa, Brazil and the Caribbean.
If you missed the first two, be sure to check out the last show, "Illstyle and Peace" on Friday, February 5th. This high-energy variety-show-style assemble features jaw-dropping contemporary and old school Hip Hop dance moves interspersed with comic sketches about getting through some of the challenges of school life by respecting peers, respecting teachers, and having the courage to speak out when necessary. In a fun, interactive concert, audiences will see how different skill sets can lead to equally impressive moves on the dance floor.
A big THANK YOU to the Nantucket Atheneum for providing us with these shows!

Athletics

The 2015-16 NBGC game schedule is off to an exciting start! With many close games in each division, everyone is enthused to see how the rest of the season plays out. Please support the teams, as they begin to get ready for a playoff run.
In our inaugural year in the Cape Cod Youth Basketball league, our travel teams are faring well; with our girls still vying for their first win in league play, the boys are standing at 4-6. This has been an incredible learning experience for all of the members involved.
Thank you to all of our sponsors, parents, coaches and players for making the season thus far a success. Please come out to the Club to cheer on our young athletes!
