In this October edition, you’ll see some County updates, have a chance to view the latest edition of Through the Vine, and get a snapshot of what’s been happening around District 3—from community events and local initiatives to upcoming opportunities to get involved. I’m grateful for your continued interest and support, and I look forward to seeing many of you out in the community this fall.
Thank you for reading, and please reach out to me (anne.cottrell@countyofnapa.org) or District 3 Aide Leah (leah.doyle-stevens@countyofnapa.org) with any County-related questions or concerns.
Warmly,
Anne

Pickett Fire Debrief
Thanks to Chief Ryan and Deputy Chief Greenberg for this Pickett fire debrief - we talked about pre-fire strategies, response, and how to stay prepared even as we enter the windy fall season.
Also, my office has heard from several residents seeking information on the origin of the Pickett Fire. That determination sits with an investigative team at CAL FIRE. I know it’s challenging to wait for more news. Here is the 9/23/2025 statement from CAL FIRE LNU’s public information team on the current status:
“CAL FIRE continues to investigate all potential ignition sources within the general origin area of the Pickett Fire, which began on Aug. 21, 2025, on Pickett Road outside of Calistoga in Napa County. The fire burned 6,819 acres, destroyed five structures and was declared 100 percent contained on Sept. 7, 2025. The investigation remains ongoing and may take several months to reach a final determination. To protect the integrity of this process, CAL FIRE cannot release additional details or provide further comment until the investigation is complete. If anyone has information related to the ignition of the fire, please call 1-800-468-4408.”

Welcoming South Australian vintners and leaders to Napa County
I was grateful for the opportunity earlier this month to spend time at Beringer Vineyards with a visiting delegation of South Australian winemakers and Minister of Trade Joe Szakacs, MP. The group shared insights on topics that connect our regions — from wildfire prevention and water conservation to supporting local vintners. It was inspiring to learn how South Australia is preparing and adapting to climate change. Thank you to Treasury Estates for organizing, to our local industry partners for building connections, and to the SA vintners and Minister Szakacs for the great conversations.
