NYU College of Dentistry: Oral Health Center for People with Disabilities Named a New Dental Treatment Center for People Affected by Ectodermal Dysplasias

The National Foundation for Ectodermal Dysplasias (NFED) has named the NYU Dentistry Oral Health Center for People with Disabilities a New Dental Treatment Center. Ectodermal dysplasias (ED) are a group of disorders in which two or more of the ectodermally derived structures — the skin, sweat glands, hair, nails, teeth and mucous membranes — develop abnormally. Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine: Periodontology Advanced Education Program Celebrates 30-Year Milestone and Successes Along the Way

This month marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine’s Advanced Education Program in Periodontics. Since its inception, the program has produced over 70 highly educated and clinically competent periodontists proficient in the diagnosis and treatment of the various forms of periodontal disease. Columbia College of Dental Medicine Collaborates With New York State Dental Association to Expand Community Outreach

Columbia University's College of Dental Medicine is collaborating with the New York State Dental Association (NYSDA) to enhance access to dental services for underserved communities throughout Northern Manhattan and expand NYSDA’s Dental Demonstration Project to New York City. As part of the collaboration, a community dental health coordinator (CDHC) will join the College of Dental Medicine to leverage existing relationships with neighborhood schools, community health clinics, and senior centers within the college’s Community DentCare Network and to increase dental services to low-income, underserved residents in Northern Manhattan. University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine: Light Therapy Helps Burn Injuries Heal Faster by Triggering Growth Protein

Praveen Arany, DDS, PhD, assistant professor of oral biology in the UB School of Dental Medicine, is leading an investigation into light therapy. The findings may impact therapeutic treatments for burn injuries, which affect more than 6 million people worldwide each year. Read more.

Touro College of Dental Medicine at New York Medical College: North American Dental Group Awards Scholarships To Support Oral Health Students at the Touro College of Dental Medicine

Five dental students, soon to embark on careers as oral health professionals, have been named recipients of an inaugural scholarship program established this year by North American Dental Group (NADG). NADG, a leading dental support organization affiliated with 250 dental practices across 15 states, handed out scholarships in June to fourth-year students at Touro College of Dental Medicine at New York Medical College. NYU College of Dentistry: Dr. Leena Palomo Named Chair, NYU Dentistry Ashman Department of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry

Dr. Leena Palomo, an accomplished dental educator, clinician, and researcher, has been named chair of the Ashman Department of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry, effective September 1, 2021. Dr. Palomo is currently a tenured professor of periodontics at Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine (CWRU). She is also the first dentist in CWRU’s history to serve as chair of its Faculty Senate. Read more.

Eastman Institute For Oral Health, University of Rochester: Century Old Documents Donated to Eastman Dental by First Director’s Great Grandson

An original dental cabinet used by the Eastman Dental Dispensary’s founding director, Dr. Harvey Burkhart, is among the many items recently donated by his great grandson. Richard Quodomine and his partner Rina Aligaen delivered the items previously stored at their home in Pennsylvania, where he works as a cartographer and senior analyst for the City of Philadelphia.
