Imagine a sleek and efficient dental clinic with automated chairs and instruments wired to measure every aspect of a patient's experience. Miles of blue Ethernet cable under a raised floor send the information to a nearby server that crunches data on everything from which dental tools were used to patients' reactions. A curved ceiling dampens sound over the 48 cubicles enclosing the dental chairs, keeping the interactions private.   Read more.

Columbia University College of Dental Medicine Looks Toward a Data-Driven Future 

A patient takes her seat in the dentist's office. On her last visit, six months ago, she found that when the chair tipped back too far, a problem in her back flared up, causing serious pain. She and the hygienist went through several minutes of uncomfortable trial and error to figure out the range of safe positions. Now, the patient is nervous. While studying biology and chemistry in college, Cathy Lee'18 wanted to find a career that combined science with her love for art. Ms. Lee, who grew up playing violin and piano, sought to work with her hands and to create beauty in her work. She saw an opportunity to do both as a dentist.

NYU Dentistry: Dr. Peter Loomer Featured at NYU Abu Dhabi's 4th Annual Public Health Think Tank

Dr. Peter M. Loomer, clinical professor and chair of the Ashman Department of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry, discussed periodontal disease and the contributing factors that lead to its premature diagnosis in adults living in the UAE and surrounding gulf nations at NYU Abu Dhabi's fourth annual Public Health Think Tank


Faculty member Andrew Schwartz, DDS, Division Director for Behavioral Science and Practice Management in the Department of General Dentistry, and alumnus Pamela Combs, DDS, '89, were accepted into the prestigious American College of Dentists (ACD).
