Welcome to the Newfound Connection
Each edition of the Newfound Lake Region Association newsletter features events, news, trivia, and the people of the watershed—everything a Newfounder needs to know!
A New Kind of Walk in the Watershed
Young (and young-at-heart) explorers can now visit Grey Rocks Conservation Area to experience NLRA's StoryWalk® exhibit. A StoryWalk® is a book that is posted, page by page, along a path. This activity adds a fun and exciting element to the Floodplain Loop Trail, giving families a great new way to explore and connect with our natural environment.
The future protection of Newfound depends not only on our actions today, but on the actions of future generations. By strengthening the bond between young people and Newfound, as well as providing education on the importance of good stewardship, we further our mission to protect Newfound Lake and its watershed.

Grey Rocks offers many other opportunities for adventure!

Stewardship Journal July 7 - Ryan Hannon

The past two weeks have been very interesting at the NLRA. Watershed stewards are jack-of-all-trades when it comes to our tasks and responsibilities, ranging from water quality testing to trail maintenance. Last week we were introduced to NLRA's...

Love our lands? Please Leave No Trace.
The popularity of public outdoor spaces is soaring this summer, and traffic at state parks, conservation areas, and on hiking trails is hitting record numbers. All that love can take a toll on our environment--from litter, to water contamination from pet and human waste, invasive species introduction, and more. With so many people (and pets) enjoying the outdoors, it is especially important that outdoor adventurers, from day trippers to thru-hikers, practice "Leave No Trace" principles. These principles protect our land and ensure that everyone gets the chance to enjoy our wild spaces.
If you spend much time in the great outdoors, you're likely to hear the phrase "Leave No Trace" as often as you hear " The Ten Essentials." What does it mean? Simply put, it's the best practices we should follow to enjoy and protect our natural...

Protect What You Love
Our water, our land, our community.
Last month we asked the community to join us in protecting this special place. The overwhelming response has allowed us to push forward with some exciting accomplishments! We are hard at work assessing and mitigating stormwater problems, maintaining your favorite trails and outdoor spaces, monitoring water quality throughout the watershed, and planning safe community events.

But there is so much more work to do!

Newfound is facing increasingly frequent large storm events that cause erosion and lower our water quality, the threat of invasive aquatic species, and a slow, but steady, decline in water quality over the past ten years.

Your membership with NLRA increases our capacity to mitigate these threats.

Through land conservation that protects water quality, stormwater mitigation projects, and public events that promote good stewardship, your support strengthens the resilience of Newfound to ensure our community will not just survive, but thrive, even in future times of hardship.

If you value our clean lake, our green forests, and our thriving community, please join now.
