The Meaning of Membership
NLRA members understand the importance of protecting Newfound and our many connections to it. We are a community of lake lovers, forest wanderers, families young and old, and businesses large and small that prioritize the well-being of Newfound.
Our dedicated volunteers monitor 43 sample sites across the entire watershed, giving us crucial data about pollution problems and long term water quality trends. With these data we know when there is a pollution problem and can take action to mitigate it before it causes greater harm.
Volunteer Weed Watchers keep a constant eye out for potential invasive species. Early detection allows us to deal quickly with infestations before they become difficult to manage. The Lake Host program prevents the spread of invasives with complimentary boat checks at Wellington State Park and Grey Rocks Conservation Area.
Stormwater management projects, the result of our partnerships with homeowners and municipalities, protect the waters of Newfound Lake and its tributaries from sediment and pollution while also protecting our homes, roads, and infrastructure from erosion. Small scale homeowner stormwater projects are completed with area youth in our Youth Conservation Corps.
By thoughtfully conserving important natural areas we ensure our water, including our drinking water, remains clean. Land conservation also provides natural habitat for wildlife, recreational opportunities, economic benefits to towns, businesses, and property owners, and the preservation of our rural way of life.
Educational opportunities for youth and adults alike, such as summer camp activities, mushroom foraging events, and stargazing, strengthen the bond between Newfound and the people who love it. These initiatives enhance the well-being of the community while also fostering good stewardship.

Lawn Care for Lake Care
Improper lawn care practices harm our water quality. When fertilizer from lawns and gardens runs into our waterways, it pollutes our water and feeds the growth of algae. Follow these best practices from UNH Cooperative Extension to have the best of both worlds - a healthy lawn and a healthy lake!
