In late July, scientists at the International Union for Conservation of Nature added the monarch butterfly to its endangered species list. We're partnering with the Milkweed Adaptation Research and Education Network (MAREN) to study the plant critical to monarch survival - milkweed. You can help monarchs by volunteering with NLRA as a citizen scientist and monitoring milkweed and monarchs at Grey Rocks Conservation Area!

Stampede Success (Yee-haw!)
NLRA's first annual lake-wide survey for aquatic invasive plants, the Weed Stampede, was met with broad enthusiasm and ended in incredible success. Over the course of two days, 18 boats carrying 22 volunteers covered 76.54 miles (all by paddle!) and logged 78 hours on the hunt for aquatic invasive plants. The results? ZERO aquatic invasive plants found! Thank you to the many volunteers and Lakes Region Conservation Corps members who made this lake-wide survey possible.
Aquatic invasive plants reduce water quality, pose a danger to recreators, and even lower property values. NLRA works to keep Newfound Lake free from invasive aquatic plants through the Lake Host and Weed Watcher programs. Learn more at NewfoundLake.org/invasives.

Flowers that feed pollinators in the summer - coreopsis, black-eyed susan, coneflower, and so many more - can provide fall and winter sustenance for birds and other animals. Put away your pruners and let spent flowers go to seed. Not only will they attract new wildlife to your garden, but they give great visual interest during the drabber seasons. You can also clip the seed heads and arrange in bouquets to hang in winter like a birdfeeder.
Make A Donation - Of Your Time!
