Congress Addresses Priorities before Summer Recess

Congress faces a busy final week before its  extended, seven week summer recess. Both the House and the Senate will likely consider a short-term reauthorization of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) through September 30, 2017. Funding for the FAA is set to expire on July 15 and remains a priority for Congress to address this week.  The House A ppropriations Committee will markup the Labor, Health & Human Services, and Education funding bill on Wednesday. The full House  will consider the FY2017 Interior and Environment Appropriations Act. While the bill provides $32.2 billion overall for the Department of the Interior and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), it also contains several contentious policy riders that seek to block certain environmental rules and regulations.  The House will also likely consider a Senate-passed bill (63-30) that would require a new federal labeling standard for foods made with genetically modified organisms. The Senate will continue to look to move forward with the FY2017 Defense Appropriations Act.
