The Hill This Week: Interior and Environment Funding, PIPES, and More
This week, the House and Senate will continue to move the
appropriations process forward. The House Appropriations Committee is scheduled to markup the Interior and Environment appropriations bill on Wednesday. The Senate is expected to take up the Interior and Environment appropriations bill at the Subcommittee level on Tuesday and Committee level on Thursday.
The Senate will likely take up the House-passed
Securing America's Future Energy: Protecting our Infrastructure of Pipelines and Enhancing Safety (SAFE PIPES) Act of 2016
(
S. 2276
). The bill authorizes the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Administration and establishes the Great Lakes as an unusually sensitive area, subjecting the Lakes to stricter regulations of pipelines.

NEMWI to Co-host Briefing on Efforts to Control Asian Carp in Mississippi River Basin, June 22
NEMWI, in conjunction with the Mississippi Interstate Cooperative Resource Association (MICRA), will hold a Congressional briefing on actions to address the threat of Asian carp in the Upper Mississippi and Ohio River basins, on Wednesday, June 22 from 1 PM to 2 PM in the Dirksen Senate Office Building, room SD-562. Participants at the briefing will include:

EPA Announces Availability of Funding for Brownfields Area Wide Planning Grants
Funding is now available from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for eligible entities who wish to develop an area-wide plan for brownfields assessment, cleanup, and subsequent reuse. The EPA is calling for proposals for grants; the deadline is August 10, 2016. This funding is for research and/or technical assistance activities directed to one or more brownfield site(s) located in a specific area.
Proposals must include an area-wide plan that consists of specific implementation strategies for assessing, cleaning up and reusing the brownfield(s) and related project area revitalization strategies.
EPA anticipates awarding approximately 20 projects in total, funded at up to $200,000 each.
