NU Places Second in 4th Annual International Case Competition
Northeastern's Huntington Management Consulting team
Earlier this month, Northeastern hosted the 4th Annual CUIBE International Business Case Competition, and the four undergraduates representing Northeastern came in second place.

Held annually by Northeastern, the competition took place from October 31-November 2nd and featured 16 schools from across the United States and Canada. The teams were given their case on Friday morning, and had until Saturday morning to come up with a business plan and presentation. The four final teams were announced at the conclusion of lunch on Saturday, and presented during the final round that afternoon. Winners were announced at the tailgate dinner that night in Dodge Hall, followed by the Northeastern vs. BC hockey game.

Led by Associate Professor of International Business and Strategy Ray Kinnunen, the Northeastern team included the following undergraduate D'Amore-McKim School of Business students: Matthew Saitta, Rose Bleakley, Jake Kugler, and Tori Farley.

In first place was Washington University of St. Louis with the University of Oklahoma coming in third and American University placing fourth.

Congratulations to all of the winners and we look forward to more great competition next year!

Supply Chain Team Takes First at Michigan Challenge

A team of Northeastern students took first place at the Bowersox Undergraduate Supply Chain Challenge. This year's competition took place at Michigan State's East Lansing, Michigan campus on November 7th and 8th.

The winning Northeastern team

Professor Cuneyt Eroglu and his team of supply chain students included Hochiang Wang, Elliot Lowe and Gautam Mahtani.

The Challenge consisted of 15 university teams who were competing in a computer-based supply chain game. Each team was expected to design and implement plans for a global supply chain network over a 13 week planning horizon. The first day consisted of training while the second day was reserved for the actual competition. The teams were rated on four criteria: revenue, supply chain cost savings, customer service and inventory turns. The Northeastern team had the overall best performance and won the $2,000 prize!

Congratulations to the Northeastern team on a job well done!

Entrepreneurs to Host Demo Day

Northeastern's annual Husky Startup Challenge Demo Day will take place on Tuesday, November 19th, 6:30 PM - 9:00pm in the Curry Student Center Ballroom.

The event is held each year to encourage all those with the entrepreneurial spirit to come see the future of innovation and entrepreneurship at Northeastern.

Demo Day is a science-fair-style showcase event of the Husky Startup Challenge ventures who turned an idea into a real business over the course of just one semester. All ventures compete for $5,000 in prizes.

The Husky Startup Challenge is a program run by the Entrepreneurs Club that teaches students and alumni how to take an idea and turn it into a business over the course of four bootcamps throughout the semester. The Club fosters entrepreneurship and provides these ventures the resources they need to succeed and turn their ideas into reality.

Northeastern Places Fourth at Wharton

Last month, Northeastern's Huntington Management Consulting team placed fourth at Wharton's Undergraduate Consulting Conference.

The third annual event is a full-day featuring representatives from the top consulting firms hosting panels, workshops, networking sessions and ends with a case competition.

Led by Professor Ray Kinnunen, the Northeastern team members were Matthew Saitta, Rose Bleakley, Jake Kugler, and Tori Farley.

Wharton came in first place followed by the University of Toronto and Villanova University. The theme for this year's competition focused on "Conquering Consulting" which aims to educate, prepare, and connect students for a future career in consulting.

By Olivia Allen, senior Northeastern student

More than 350 Northeastern students and community members gathered on October 21st for the Social Enterprise Institute's October Lecture Series to hear John Wood, founder of Room to Read, speak about impetus for leaving behind a career as a Microsoft Executive to start an international non-profit organization, and the lessons he learned as an early stage social entrepreneur.

Mr. Wood provided students with an analysis of ten business-driven principles that drive Room to Read's staggering impact and sustainability. Room to Read

Mr. Wood's lecture not only coincided with the social entrepreneurship students' analysis of Room to Read, but also with the establishment of a Room to Read Chapter at Northeastern, led by students in Professor Dennis Shaughnessy's freshman Honors Seminar.
