Update on NDBC Discernment Process
  By Don Janney, Church Moderator
On behalf of the Church Council, I want to thank all NDBC members who participated in our Discernment Process concerning whether to offer the ministry of marriage to same-sex couples within our congregation. The discussions during this process led us to adopt the following statement of policy at a special called meeting of the Church-in-conference on April 17, 2016:
Northside Drive Baptist Church, believing in the love of God for all persons, will provide equal access to all facets of the life and ministry of our church (including membership, baptism, ordination, marriage, teaching, staffing, and leadership) without regard to sexual orientation or gender identity.
Of 115 ballots cast at the meeting on April 17, there were 99 votes (86%) in favor of the policy and 16 votes (14%) in opposition to the policy. There was also one recorded abstention.
As a result of our adoption of this statement of policy, we need to revise our current wedding policy, primarily to incorporate gender-neutral terminology in the policy and to modify some outdated provisions. Theresa Goriczynski, who has been the chair of our Wedding Committee for several years, will serve as chair of an ad hoc committee to revise our wedding policy. Ken Brant, Cheryl Dewell, Brian Knight, and Elizabeth Sheeley will serve with Theresa as members of this ad hoc committee.

The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains.
The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.
~William Arthur Ward

The teachers, community leaders, and volunteers for Church School and Children's Choirs reveal that Northside Drive truly has great and inspirational people. Summer Sermon Series
Sundays at 11 AM, May 29 - September 4
This Summer's Sermon Series is built upon the odd, angular preachers of the Old Testament: the Hebrew Prophets. They functioned as Israel's immune system. Whenever the Hebrew Faith became too aligned with culture or comfort or power or privilege...God sent a prophet. By today's standards of success, productivity, winning, or profit-making...the prophets failed. They were Not-for-Profit, Prophets . But they are called by God to be faithful...and so are we. How shall we respond?
Youth Summer Celebration
As the school year comes to an end, get ready to celebrate together as a youth group. We will usher in the summer months with a fun time of games and movies on Sunday, May 29 , starting at 7 PM. The event will end at 10 PM that night. Come prepared to take a break from school and relax with each other. If you have any questions or suggestion on the games or movies to play, please contact Jeffrey at . See you there!!

In the Balcony of the Narthex after Worship

Don't want to get up before 9 AM? Join this class of young singles and couples in their 20s and 30s at the big table in the balcony of the Narthex after the worship service in an informal setting for snacks and coffee. We will gather around the table every Sunday to briefly examine the lectionary texts, deconstruct the sermon of the day, and fellowship together. We will then go to lunch together after class.
Lunch after Church

The Youth meet once a month after church---either in the afternoon or the evening. Encore! serves as a time into which we place various events, including but not limited to after-church lunches, afternoon outdoor activities, evening movies, service projects, and trips to nearby spiritual sites (i.e. Monastery of the Holy Spirit, etc.). Any given month's Encore! event will be publicized via email, Facebook, and the youth newsletter. For more information contact Jeffrey Dunkerley at .
