COMMONWEALTH HOMEHEALTH CARE - ACMESA NEW PRESIDENT
|
|
Commonwealth Home Health Care, Inc. announces that Brian Wilson, Chief Operations Officer has been elected President of the Atlantic Coast Medical Equipment Services Association representing the States of Virginia, North Carolina, and West Virginia.
Brian will continue to fight for patient rights and patient protections to ensure patient choice and adequate reimbursement for provided services for all providers. As Brian enters his Presidential term, he remarks, “I am super excited to be sworn in as the next President of ACMESA. Our past President has left a very large pair of shoes to fill, but I am up for the challenge and hope that I can do as well as he did. ACMESA has quite a bit to offer medical equipment companies in North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia, so one of our goals is to get the word out and have them come and join us so we can put protections into place for our patients that we have the honor of taking care of in their homes. It is going to be an exciting year!”

Tyson Foods and Danville Community College Partner for Industrial Maintenance Jobs
Danville Community College (DCC), in partnership with Tyson Foods, is offering a new Maintenance Technology training program to help students find highly skilled work at Tyson’s new fully cooked poultry facility in Danville, Virginia.
Tyson Foods’ new facility is projected to be operational in early 2023. Hiring for maintenance technician roles will begin in early 2023, which coincides with when the first class of students who enroll will complete the new DCC program. DCC’s intensive hands-on curriculum puts students in the lab where skilled instructors create simulations and production environments to train students with first-hand knowledge of the future applications of their skills. Students who complete the program will be given priority in the plant’s hiring process for maintenance technicians.
Danville Community College is a two-year institution of higher education under the statewide Virginia Community College System. DCC's service area includes the City of Danville, Pittsylvania County, and Halifax County.

Averett opens satellite campus of Piedmont Regional Criminal Justice Training Academy
With its remote instructional technology already in place for the Averett Online academic programs, the University will host Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services-approved class offerings and specialized trainings for local law enforcement needing to complete required continuing education programs. Oftentimes, officers need to stay close to their beat areas and still be on call while undergoing these trainings, and the reduced travel will minimize the financial impact on agencies.
Course offerings will begin at Averett this June, and starting with legislative updates. Future course topics like crisis intervention, conflict resolution and implicit bias training could be offered, pending DCJS approval.

A team of Averett University Student Entrepreneurs win Collegiate Business Pitch Comeptition
Eight Averett University entrepreneurship students won first place at the RISE Collegiate Business Plan Competition after they pitched a business plan for their campus communications application called Project Connect.
The initial pitch took around five minutes and was followed by 10 minutes of a question-and-answer period with the judges.
As a result, the students won a portion of a $10,000 cash prize. The money will be used toward funding the app, which students intend to use to streamline communications across Averett’s campus, then expanding it for use by other similar sized college campuses before growing the app for use by larger institutions.
