Dear FCE Community,

I hope that you are all doing well. We had a busy and productive summer. FCE students were inspired to make the most of their summer break. I am thrilled to share a few student summer highlights!

FCE Summer Highlights

Student Summer Spotlights

Natanael, a CB sophomore spent his summer getting ahead in credits towards graduation, volunteering at Hope Horizon, a local nonprofit, and attending several FCE CLEAR excursions including the Careers in Sports Industry, hosted by Stanford Football, Stanford Children’s Hospital, and Plug And Play.

Nancy, a CB Junior, participated in the Helix Medical Program through UC Berkeley that provides high school students exposure to medical careers. She enjoyed staying on campus, the guest speakers, dissection labs, and getting tips on med school applications. She also shadowed doctors in the Kaiser Oakland Pediatrics department and visited the UCSF Research labs. Nancy also made time to play on her school summer basketball team, work as a UCSF Cardiac Camp Junior Counselor and volunteer with STEM For Others, a local nonprofit, to support youth STEM programs.

Khrisar, a CB senior, spent his summer volunteering with the EPA Community Archives Cultural Keepers project. He interviewed elders in the community to preserve their stories. He also went on the FCE East Coast College Tour where he visited schools in Boston and Washington, D.C. Lastly, he went the extra mile and worked with FCE tutors, Sathya and Callista for extra preparation for the SAT!

Summer Orientations

Students also participated in our summer orientations preparing for a successful school year! Our sophomores jumped right into soft skill development, focusing on problem solving, stress management, and organization. The juniors geared up for a busy year ahead through time management activities, college application preparation, and community building. The seniors kicked off their first day by visiting Stanford with a dining hall experience and Q&As on college admissions from current students, followed by learning key components of the college application process to set them up for a promising year ahead. Our students are ready for a year of growth, learning, and new opportunities! More to come from our ninth grade class later this semester!

Meta Summer Academy

This summer, 3 FCE high school students joined Meta Summer Academy! Throughout the program, MSA students gained hands-on experience in coding and game design with Mission Bit, built financial literacy skills with Fidelity, strengthened soft skills with FCE, and connected with professionals through career panels and networking opportunities. FCE is proud to have partnered with Meta to bring this transformative program to students for the past 14 years!

Special thanks to the FCE team and community partners who were able to make this event possible. This event was a splendid way to celebrate our one-year anniversary in our office and kick off the new program year!
