Western PA Consortium Creates Pipeline of Qualified Workers
In western Pennsylvania, a group of community colleges, industry, and workforce partners formed the Tri-State Energy and Advanced Manufacturing (TEAM) Consortium to respond to the need for a properly trained workforce in high-demand careers. Businesses in this region could employ at least 380,000 new workers over the next ten years.
Short-Term Training Programs are Getting People Back to Work
With high unemployment, community colleges are offering short-term training, certificates and degrees to give people the skills they need to get back to work. Luzerne County Community College, for example, has developed a "high priority occupation list" that indicates where people are needed to fill open jobs immediately.

Dr. Mark Erickson, president of Northampton Community College, said in a recent PennLive article, “As one of the largest community college consumers of green power in the nation...
