Community colleges play an important role in educating and training current and future generations of workers,
in addition to providing affordable and responsive higher education to thousands of Pennsylvanians every year.
High School Students Earn College Credit through Dual Enrollment
Through the Pottstown Promise Early College Program, Pottstown High School students can earn up to 30 college credits at Montgomery County Community College by the time they complete their senior year. "My advice to students is to find your passion, study hard and go for it," said Judy Green, one of the MCCC advisors.
Community Colleges Expand Dual Enrollment Partnerships
The Community College of Allegheny County and Northgate School District are expanding their partnership to offer all students the chance to earn college credit for free while still in high school. The program will enable students to have up to 16 college credits fully paid for by the time they graduate from Northgate High School.
SYOP Allows High School Students to Earn College Credit
Through the Academy at Palumbo Senior Year Only Program, high school seniors are able to graduate with a diploma and 24 transferable college credits, or multiple industry certifications to jump-start their college and career goals.“Through SYOP, I’ve been spending my whole entire senior year at the Community College of Philadelphia,” said high school senior Jamal Johnson, who is going to the University of Pittsburgh next year.
Comcast Newsmakers Features Community Colleges
The Pennsylvania Commission for Community Colleges recently sat down with Comcast Newsmakers at Millersville University to talk about what community colleges are doing to bolster workforce development, align programs with in-demand careers and train the next generation of Pennsylvanians . We also discussed the multitude of transfer opportunities to PA State System of Higher Education and other colleges and universities across the Commonwealth.
