in addition to providing affordable and responsive higher education to thousands of Pennsylvanians every year.
Think Food Insecurity Doesn't Impact PA Colleges? Think Again.
Food insecurity is a growing concern on community colleges campuses said the presidents of Bucks County Community College, the Community College of Allegheny County and Montgomery County Community College in a recent letter published by the Pennsylvania Capital-Star. The colleges are developing localized solutions through partnerships.
Veteran Extols Job Training Offered at Community College
Following the September 11 terrorist attacks on America, Sean Kerpovich enlisted in the National Guard and was deployed on three combat tours in Iraq. When he returned home, Sean needed to adapt his skill set for a changed job market. He enrolled at Luzerne County Community College and is pursuing an engineering, design and manufacturing associate degree that will qualify him for in-demand careers.
Meet Keichsla: Early Childhood Education Student
Keichsla Morales-Pena, a student at HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College, is working toward her degree in early childhood-elementary education, and a scholarship she earned is helping her get there. Though she hadn't always aspired to earn a post-secondary credential, she now plans to transfer to a four-year institution to continue her education.

Two-Year Executive Committee Appointments
The Pennsylvania Commission for Community Colleges recently announced its 2019-20 Executive Committee , which leads the Commission's Board of Directors in determining the statewide direction and policy interests of its 14 community colleges:

  • Vice Chair, Mark Erickson, Ed.D.
  • Secretary, Lynn Distasio, LPT
  • Treasurer, Donald L. Heller, CPA
