Community College Students Give Back Through Food Bank Service
Community College of Allegheny County students rolled up their sleeves to volunteer at the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank earlier this year. Although participation was limited to 15 students, many more expressed interest in the service opportunity. Together, they spent two hours repackaging more than 60 boxes of food donations to be transferred to local pantries for distribution to individuals and families in need.
Business Majors Help Fellow Students During Tax Season
Last year, 17 Montgomery County Community College business and accounting students offered to help their fellow students with preparing, reviewing and filing forms for the 2019 tax season. Support from Mary Ellen Glick brought the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program to campus with help from the Campaign for Working Families. The program will expand to the greater community in 2020.
Community College Students Support Veterans and Each Other
Ryan Evans recently spoke about the support Luzerne County Community College has given him since he left the Navy and returned to school. "I was worried that I wouldn't find [family-like] bonds [at college], but it's been nothing short of amazing to see how far these people are willing to, go not only for vets, but for students as a whole," said Navy veteran Mr. Evans.
