in addition to providing affordable and responsive higher education to thousands of Pennsylvanians every year.

Gov. Wolf Delivers Budget Address
Gov. Wolf made his budget address this morning and focused on the need to create an innovative, flexible and relevant workforce development system in Pennsylvania. However, there is no proposed increase in the community college operating or capital appropriations. The commission is hopeful that the General Assembly provides funding to community colleges and leverages their expertise and experience to meet these challenges. Gov. Wolf also proposed $8 million for community college tuition assistance. We look forward to learning more about the vision behind this initiative.
Community College Senior to Represent U.S. at World Snowboarding Championships
Kaiya Kizuka, a Reading Area Community College senior, is slated to compete today in the 2019 FIS World Snowboard Championships in Utah as a member of the U.S. Snowboard Team. We wish her and the team much luck!
Local CNA to Receive Health Care Student of the Year Award
Marissa Marsh, a Butler County Community College registered nursing student employed as a certified nursing assistant, will receive one of two inaugural Health Care Student of the Year Awards from the Butler County Health Care Consortium.
2019 National Scholarship Semifinalists Announced
Cathryn Seibert, second year student at Lehigh Carbon Community College, has been named a semifinalist for the 2019 Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship from the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation. Through this transfer scholarship, the Foundation supports community college students as they transfer to top four-year institutions to complete their bachelor’s degrees. 
Pittsburgh Entrepreneurs Found Encouragement, Mentors at Community College
“At Community College of Allegheny County, one of my professors really nurtured my interest in growing the business,” said Tyleda Worou. Through her business, 360 Cafe LLC, Ms. Worou sells holistic health products, herbal remedies and reiki therapy.
Criminal Justice Reform Caucus Established by Rep. Delozier
Congratulations to Rep. Sheryl Delozier , Rep. Jordan Harris , Sen. Camera Bartolotta , Sen. Art Haywood and all members of the new Criminal Justice Reform Caucus aimed at addressing issues in the state criminal justice system. Many community colleges - including Lehigh Carbon Community College , Butler County Community College and Community College of Philadelphia - have undertaken initiatives to help address the educational and training issues that may hinder the ability of people to successfully reenter society after a criminal conviction.
Community College Administrator Selected for Prestigious, Nationwide Academic Exchange Program 
Dr. Robert F. Smith , assistant dean of humanities and social sciences at Northampton Community College , has been selected to participate in an International Education Administrators (IEA) Seminar in Russia, a U.S. Fulbright program. The Fulbright IEA program is a prestigious academic exchange program and highly competitive. Smith is one of five people nationwide selected for the program. Dr. Smith is the author of Manufacturing Independence: Industrial Innovation in the American Revolution.
