Hope House Garden Awarded by MOFGA
PCHC's Hope House Health & Living Center "Giving Hope Garden" brought home nine 1st place blue ribbons and one 2nd place ribbon for various vegetables entered at the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association competition at the Common Ground Fair over the weekend.

The Hope House Health & Living Center offers three distinct services for homeless or peri-homeless adults in the greater Bangor area: a comprehensive Health Center, emergency Shelter and Transitional Housing units. The Giving Hope Garden is a 14 raised-bed organic garden located behind the Hope House. Shelter and Transitional Housing guests work in the garden (May - Oct.) to help supplement the 1000+ meals that are served each week throughout the year. For the last 2 years, the Orono Gardening and Cooking Club kids, staff, AmeriCorps members and community volunteers have supported this garden with all the seeds, seedlings, supplies and assistance needed. This year, the Bangor Seniors Center donated an irrigation system to help make it more sustainable for the future. The  garden produces over 1,500 lbs. of food that is used in the Hope House Shelter kitchen and shared with local food pantries.
PCHC to Open Dental Clinic for Students at Downeast School
PCHC Dental Center and Downeast Elementary School have partnered to offer students in-school dental care during the school year. Starting in October, a licensed dentist and registered dental hygienist from PCHC Dental Center will offer preventive care and basic restorative care for students at the school.  The project arose out of concern for student access to regular dental care.  It is our hope to remove some of the barriers to dental care that face young people in our community. PCHC received grant funding from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), as well as Ronald McDonald House Charities of Maine to support the program.

Clubhouse to Be Recognized by the Wellness Council of Maine
PCHC's Unlimited Sollutions Clubhouse was one of five organizations to receive statewide recognition from the Wellness Council of Maine for their efforts to improve employee well-being in their region of Maine in 2016. The Wellness Council of Maine, a non profit program of the Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce with statewide representation, will recognize Unlimited Solutions Clubhouse at the Maine Wellness Leadership Summit on October 5th at Point Lookout.

PCHC's Unlimited Solutions Clubhouse, a Clubhouse International accredited program, is a diverse and supportive community, working side by side, creating opportunities to achieve goals in wellness, education and employment. The program successfully addresses the devastating impact of serious mental illness. The Wellness Program at Unlimited Solutions Clubhouse is called "Fit 4 US" and focuses on helping members of the clubhouse achieve their goals in wellness through a variety of wellness and fitness classes. In 2016, they were accepted into the InSHAPE Implementation Study to improve the physical health of people with serious mental illness, and participate in a research study to advance understanding of how to better address the physical health needs of individuals with serious mental illness.
