Inside Parallel

In Minnesota, it's never too early to start thinking about hockey season!

Parallel Technologies is proud to be sponsoring a hole at the "Skate to Excellence" golf tournament on August 9. This program was created in 2002 to help young skaters improve their stride and increase speed, along with developing their individual skating, shooting, passing and puck handling skills while getting ready for the upcoming season.

Parallel Technologies President & CEO, Dale Klein, recently sat down with John P. Palen from Minnesota Business Magazine, to talk about the transformation his company has undergone since Klein took the helm in 2005.

Parallel Technologies was a struggling cabling company which had been in business since 1983. Klein had a vision to develop this company into one that could bring both facilities management and technology information together under one, unified technology infrastructure.

End of Life for Windows Server 2003

By Parallel's
Dan Bozicevich
Director of Infrastructure Strategy

July 14, 2015, has been marked as the end of life for Windows Server 2003. Microsoft will treat Windows Server 2003 and its affiliated products just like Windows XP. No support and no security updates. Not as big of a deal for the consumer, but for the enterprise, in which according to the IDC upwards of 20% of deployed server OS's are still running Windows 2003, it's a big deal. Security issues at the desktop are one thing, but security issues where business critical applications or worse, applications where people have forgotten about and now are neglecting, can create enormous risk and compliance issues for the enterprise.

Parallel Supports, "Be the Match"

On May 15, 2014, about 20 Parallel employees spent time supporting the "Be the Match" program. The organizations mission is to deliver cures for blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma, and other life-threatening diseases.

Every year, more patients are receiving the life-saving marrow or umbilical cord blood transplants they need thanks to donors, volunteers, health care professionals, researchers and financial supporters.

"Team Parallel" at "Be the Match" 5K Walk+Run

On May 17, 2014, seven runners from Parallel Technologies helped raise money for "Be the Match" by participating in a 5K walk+run around Lake Harriet. Be the Match is a national marrow donor program and raises critical funds to help patients with blood cancers, like leukemia and lymphoma. A few days before the race, members of the Parallel family also donated part of their work day by putting together donor kits for this life saving cause.

"Private, Public or Hybrid Cloud? The confusion around a cloud strategy can be paralyzing. Let's be realistic, using only the public cloud, for most companies is not an option. Legacy applications, security risks and compliance issues may prevent public cloud adoption. So should we just plan on hybrid cloud? Even if there are no immediate plans for public cloud, why not focus on a private cloud environment that allows future public cloud integration? We believe in most cases it's in our client's best interest to move toward a hybrid cloud environment, even if initially it's 100% private.

Sincerely,

Dale Klein - President & CEO
