Dear Friends of Parish Health Ministry,

Happy New Year! We are blessed by the birth of our Lord, Jesus, and look forward to a new year filled with His Grace. It is our hope that 2013 will be full of blessings and joy for you and your family.

In His Name,

Jeanne, Rose, Katie, Ellen, Mary Ellyn and Catherine

  Spiritual Corner:

"Gracious God, today may I look into Your face and see only Your eyes of love for me. I choose to bathe my heart in the truth that my safety and security lie in You. Even when my circumstances seem out of control, You are there, bearing me up and giving me strength. Father, give me rest today, rest in body, soul, and spirit. Revive my heart and refresh my body. May I find peace and comfort in knowing that You are always there to shelter and protect me."

Thanks to Shelly Beach, Author of Precious Lord Take My Hand, for sharing this prayer with us.

Journeying through Grief

Though times of grief and loss are something we all experience during Nancy Weltyour lives, many of us feel unsure of how to process these experiences. Five years ago, Nancy Welty, a nurse and the lead of the health ministry at College Corner First Presbyterian Church, took the call to help and support others in their grief process. Nancy's instincts told her addressing grief was an area that "needed some real attention." During this time, she came across a series of books about the loss of a loved one - a program by Stephen Ministries entitled "Journeying Through Grief." As she read the books, she realized they were well-written and accessible, and she knew they would be a "great resource" to the folks in her congregation.  Read on...

Healthy Thoughts - Volume II:

We are happy to announce that we will be kicking off our latest volume of "Healthy Thoughts." For those of you who are unfamiliar with the program, it is a collection of short articles we've created addressing health of the body, mind, and spirit. The binder will contain articles that can be inserted into your church bulletin or newsletter, as well as a CD containing copies of all the articles.

For a list of the new article topics, read on...

Yellow Dot - A Lifesaver!

Wondering about those yellow dot stickers you have been seeing on the rear windows of cars in your community? They are the latest Parish Health Ministry Program - "Yellow Dot." This program is very similar to Vial of Life, which allows valuable medical information to be easily available to First Responders - except Yellow Dot is for a person's automobile.  Read on...

Why I Give to ERH Parish Health Ministry...

By Anna Adkins, Co-Lead of the Health Ministry at St. John's Episcopal Church in Lancaster, Ohio

"We started our health ministry at St. John's in 1999. We have been partners with ERH Parish Health Ministry (PHM) since 2002. Over the last ten years, we have offered to our congregation many of the programs PHM has created including Portion Plate, 5 a day, Walk 50 miles in 50 daAnna Adkinsys, Walk to Bethlehem to name a few. These programs give us the opportunity to reach out to our congregation and provide them with healthy altern  atives as well as spiritual nourishment. Having a health ministry at your church gives you the opportunity to get to know fellow parishioners and guide them to better health. I feel with our blood pressure checks, we have made people aware of their need to see a doctor and may have saved their life. ERH PHM also provides us with educational opportunities. I have attended the Refresh Your Soul conference every year and look forward to going again this year."
