An e-newsletter for friends of Parish Health Ministry

Spring 2013

Dear Friends of Parish Health Ministry,

Spring is here offering us beauty and a rebirth of nature.  God is awesome the way he makes all things new and gives us amazing gifts.  I am finding that when I intentionally look for it, I see so many gifts that God gives me every day.  In the past year I have taken the challenge of writing down one thousand gifts for which I am grateful.  I am on #988.  It has been one of the most rewarding things I have done in a long time and gives me a sense of peace and grace from the One that loves me.

Ann Voskamp, author of One Thousand Gifts: A Dare to Live Fully Right Where You Are, states that Eucharisteo (Thanksgiving) always precedes the miracle. I have found miracles occur after I stop to recognize and thank God for His gifts especially in the difficult times.  I challenge others to do it as well.  Just take a few minutes each day or every few days to identify His gifts and thank Him in that present moment and write it down. I pray that you are blessed with the fullness of life that you seek.

In His Name,

Jeanne Palcic, MGS, RN

Director, ERH Parish Health Ministry

New Program Coming August 2013: Journeying through Grief

People often receive a lot of care and attention immediately after a loved one dies. Within a few weeks the cards, visits and phone calls taper off. "Journeying through Grief" provides a simple, meaningful way to reach out to grieving persons throughout the first year after their loss.

The "Journeying through Grief" program was written and developed by Kenneth Haugk, founder of the Stephen Ministries. It consists of a series of four booklets that coincide with the stages of grief to be sent at certain times during the first year of grieving. Our program will include Haugk's series of four booklets, a Giver's Guide along with promotional materials and instructions on how to implement the program in your church.

Watch for announcements this summer when we kick off this program or contact your ERH Parish Health Ministry Coordinator.

These days, most people's lives are incredibly busy, full, and complex.  If adequate support or resources (both internal and external) are lacking in a person's life, it can quickly become unbalanced.  For some people this lack of balance shows up in their work, and their career may suffer; for others, the lack of balance comes through in unhealthy choices, including addictions.  Read on...

Institute for Maturing Spirituality

ERH Parish Health Ministry is delighted to subscribe to a series of webinars through the Martin de Porres Center's Institute for Maturing Spirituality in Columbus, Ohio. The 2013 Spring/Summer series is geared toward faith communities, health centers, and senior residences. The subscription allows ERH Parish Health Ministry to bring live presentations with dynamic, nationally recognized speakers to our partnering churches in Greater Cincinnati. These seminars address topics of mind, body, spirit health and healing, and include such topics as, "Learning the Art of Inner Healing," "The Journey Through Grief," and, "Are We Too Old to Dream?"

Yellow Dot Kits Still Available! yellow dot

We are happy to announce that we received funding to purchase more Yellow Dot Kits for our partners!  The Yellow Dot program offers people with a chronic illness the security of knowing that their medical information; including their diagnoses, medications, allergies, doctor's name, hospital preference, etc. is available to paramedics and other EMS personnel in the event of an emergency with an automobile accident. This information is extremely helpful in assisting citizens in the "golden hour" of emergency care following a traffic accident when they may not be able to communicate their needs or medical information themselves. To get your kits, contact Jeanne Palcic at [email protected] or (513) 272-5555 ext. 4223.

Why I Give to ERH Parish Health Ministry...

By Dianne Robinson, LPN, St. James of the Valley Catholic Church, Health and Wellness Ministry, Cincinnati.

"Being a caregiver all my adult life, I have always believed in whole person health and wellness including the physical, psychological, spiritual and social well being of people. ERH Parish Health Ministry has been an awesome gift to St. James of the Valley and to many other churches. I believe in it 150 percent! If it wasn't for Parish Health Ministry coming into churches, we wouldn't be able to reach as many people in so many meaningful ways."
