The Integrated Training Collaborative (ITC) coordinates Virginia's Comprehensive System of Personnel Development (CSPD) which is the professional development system for early interventionists who provide supports and services to eligible children and families under Part C of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

Bilingual Communication Development

During our April and May Talks on Tuesdays webinars, we explored bilingual communication development in toddlers. Here are some of the key points from this series:
  • Learning two languages is not confusing for toddlers but learning two languages takes longer than learning one language.
  • How much of each language bilingual children know depends on how much they hear of each language.
  • Children with disabilities such as Down syndrome, autism, or a hearing impairment can learn two languages and in fact, exposure to a second language can have positive benefits.

totTALKS ON TUESDAYS

Talks on Tuesdays (ToTs) are one-hour webinars designed to provide free online training opportunities related to important topics in early intervention. Topics chosen for the Talks on Tuesdays webinar series are based on feedback from EI practitioners about what they need to know more about! ToTs are held on the first Tuesday of the month from 12:00-1:00PM.

 ITC Activities Update

Staff on the ITC have been busy these past two months. Here's what we've been up to:
  • We launched our new VEIPD site!
  • Our quarterly Integrated Training Collaborative meeting was held in April.
  • The 3rd cohort of the Coaching Implementation Support Project had its 4th meeting.
  • We completed a Kaleidoscope training day in April with an energetic group of new service coordinators (SCs). The Community of Practice meetings will begin soon.
  • Staff co-facilitated a national webinar on service coordination. 
Thanks to everyone who provided input on the recent survey about professional development for SCs!
