2-Part

Many of you suggested that our Talks on Tuesday (ToTs) webinars go a bit "deeper." With that in mind, this year you will see that most of our ToTs are two-parts. Since our Integrated Training Collaborative Updates are typically tied to the ToT topics, we will be doing a double feature Update every other month. Enjoy!

Take a look:

SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2017

The Integrated Training Collaborative (ITC) coordinates Virginia's Comprehensive System of Personnel Development (CSPD) which is the professional development system for early interventionists who provide supports and services to eligible children and families under Part C of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

Using Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) in Early Intervention

During our September and October Talks on Tuesday webinars we spent time busting some myths about AAC while focusing on strategies to support toddlers who might benefit from AAC. We learned that an 18 month old with typical development has 4,380 hours of language exposure. For a child using AAC to gain that same amount of language exposure using their device, if the device was only used for 20-30 minutes a week, it would take that child 84 YEARS to have the same experience with this symbol set that the child with typical development has with oral language in 18 months. WOW! Check out some of these resources to learn more:

totTALKS ON TUESDAYS

Talks on Tuesdays (ToTs) are one-hour webinars designed to provide free online training opportunities related to important topics in early intervention. Topics chosen for the Talks on Tuesdays webinar series are based on feedback from EI practitioners about what they need to know more about! ToTs are held on the first Tuesday of the month from 12:00-1:00PM.

Win-Win Professional Development (PD) team members presented several sessions and posters at the Division for Early Childhood (DEC) conference in Portland, OR. One of the greatest benefits of this conference is the opportunity to meet with PD providers from other states. Through these interactions, Virginia benefits when we share resources across state lines.  WIN-WIN!
