Jamming Sessions

Sessions with strong student players has been happening regularly now. The most recent sessions were with Alan, Richard and Peter at a studio of Alan's procurement. What a nice room and sound was really good. We played a good bit of classic rock and blues. Brian the drummer was sitting in with us for the first time and did quite well, we played for three hours straight with no break! I also did a jam with Stan and Ken this past weekend. These guys are big on improv and jamming guitar solos and rhythms. We all had insane gear and incredible guitar tone creating good playing as a result. This coming Wednesday evening is the GrandStand Jam at Last Call, jam goes until midnight. Richard, Chris and I are planning on playing that evening. Chris and I have also been doing jam situations with regular players with great results, more may come of that as things develop.

The Art of Rock Guitar

Making guitar videos has taught me a lot about tone, presentation of video and artistic development of cohesive themes created with how the instrument is crafted into the soundtrack. I do videos of all music styles including rock to this very day. I know a good bit about how to do a rock guitar video and feature that skill in this week's edition. I chose a track from a You Tube source I use often for rock backing tracks called Elevated Jam Tracks, they have great rock backing tracks of all styles. I use two tone selections on my Heritage 535, the neck with a zero tone setting and the bridge with a cut tone setting of seven. I use a drive ratio of around 70 percent, saturated but not distorted. I alternate these two pickup sounds with the dynamics of the music and use a variety of rock and blues elements and modal elements arranged in an exciting and intense result.
