Pet Partner's Largest Pet Walk

September 24, 2022

Yes, we had a gorgeous day!

Stacey, James, “Hunter" & “Chika" Tonick, Susan Elworth & “Lilly", & my granddaughter Eve and “Swift" joined “Toby" and me. We saw lots of people with dogs and stopped to talk with each group about why we were there. It was a relaxed way for us to get to know each other better and in a gorgeous setting.

Thank you Katharine for the invitation to join your walk. Pet Partners of the Oregon Coast

Practice makes Perfect- Next Time

Toby came into our lives at the very beginning of COVID so he missed out on the usual socialization experiences of seeing other dogs and people during his first 14 weeks.

Team Bonnie Rimola & Riley

Therapy teams go to great lengths to do what is necessary to keep their team working. Bonnie is the magic behind the scenes to organize, schedule and facilitate team evaluations for Pet Partners of the Oregon Coast. Her very own team would be expiring 12/31/22. The November 12th evaluation was very important for our new teams, Bonnie did not have time to prepare for her own renewal. Luckily our favorite Evaluator was in Seaside OR for a 12/15/22 evaluation. She traveled 3 hours with her husband and Riley the night before and and tested on the following day. And, yes, they passed the test. Riley is now 10yrs. old and can continue her therapy work for another 2 years.

Stress Relief for Travelers

Caroline, PPOC Board President, shares her meeting with Jayne Solinger and Larry, pet therapy teamates who do two hour shifts at the Minneapolis airport providing stress relief for staff and travelers alike.

As we chatted about our dogs and animal-assisted therapy, multiple people came by to say hello to Larry, who made them smile, gave them his cute little pug body to stroke, and charmed them with his big, soft, dark eyes. When I squatted down beside Larry, he put his paws on my leg and gave me a big snuggle. And although I didn't identify as feeling stressed from my flight, I noticed I felt lighter as I walked away towards my gate. This program is supported by the Airport Foundation MS. Hey Portland, how about a therapy dog program at PDX?!

Pets and Children

With the holidays coming up, many families might be introducing new pets into the household-particularly puppies and kittens - and care should be taken.

Advice from Jane Laulis - local pet lover and writer

Children reading with pets is an excellent interaction and popular all over the country. Pictured greeting a young girl at the Toledo Puclic Library is Lynn, from Pet Partners of the Oregon Coast, and her canine companion, Piper. They are one of Pet Partners' many registered therapy teams.

Crossing the Rainbow Bridge

Chris Evans and Willow crossed the Rainbow bridge this year. We are sad for the loss of this caring team.

Hunter, dog of Stacey Tonick, crossed the Rainbow bridge suddenly this year. We will miss Hunter's proud little prance and welcoming kisses.

Camp Attitude

Love without conditions.

Life without limits.

An accessible summer camp for families with children who experience physical and

Pick of the Litter Thrift Store- the place to find gentle used toys for your pet.

The flagship of FOLCAS’s fundraising operations is the Pick of the Litter thrift store, opened in July 2009 in a building on the County Commons in Newport. Thanks to our ever-growing ranks of donors, shoppers, and volunteers, Pick of the Litter quickly became a thriving success, filled with with terrific bargains and fabulous finds, with new items every day.
After a five-month hiatus beginning in mid-March 2020 as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, Pick of the Litter reopened on August 27, at our new
location at NE First & Fogarty.

All proceeds benefit both the Animal Shelter and FOLCAS programs to assist domesticated animals in Lincoln County.
