News from Pilgrim Lodge - March 2019
Summer IS just around the corner!
Melinda Trotti, Interim Director
As I sit in my California home, I am dreaming of again returning to the shores of Cobbossecontee Lake for another Pilgrim Lodge summer. I am blessed to be able to return for a second season as the interim director. I observed, participated and learned and now get to return, bringing some new thoughts and programming while keeping the best of our Pilgrim Lodge traditions. The love and acceptance that all feel when at Pilgrim Lodge will always remain. Join us again as we participate again in that loving community.

Know that we will be keeping all that makes Pilgrim Lodge special while expanding opportunities for new activities and ways to engage all of the space at Pilgrim Lodge. We have many returning summer staff, deans and counselors full of energy as we engage the summer's theme of "Peace Works: Empowering the Next Generation of Peacemakers." I cannot think of a better place for us all to be in this particular time in history than at camp discussing peace and actively engaging play, prayer, arts, music, and friendship to learn more about what it means to be a Peacemaker.

My dog Gouda and I will be arriving early for full time residence in Maine in April, watching the sunsets throughout the summer as they move from one side of the lake to the other being sure to land right between the islands for us to enjoy in the middle of the summer.
New Camps this Summer
Fix'n to Fish (and it's free!)
Calling fishers of maintenance! Spend your early mornings and evenings fishing on the waters of beautiful Lake Cobbosseecontee and spend midday helping with light maintenance projects. Meals (and worms for fishing) will be provided. Come for the day, stay by the night, or join us for the entire M-F work week. Click here for more info on Fix'n to Fish.
Grand-Parenting Weekend
This is a weekend for families where grandparents are actively parenting their grandchildren. Bring the whole gang to PL and experience learning and sharing faith together. Details on Grand-Parenting Weekend
Homecoming Weekends
A time for church groups, families by blood and families by friendships, individuals, and small groups to come (or return!) to PL for the weekend. There will be camp activities plus time for church groups to gather or to have free time. This is a great and affordable opportunity for smaller retreat groups who aren't able to reserve PL on their own due to size.
Young Adult Leadership
Are you 18-24 and thinking that you may be called to serve the church? If you're looking for a space to dig deeper theologically and to discuss your faith, your church, and your place in the world, this week is for you. Leadership development, faith, plus your favorite PL activities - how can you go wrong? Click to learn more.
Island Adventure!
If PL cabins are a little too 'plush' for your liking, Island Adventure is for you. Spend your days exploring Lake Cobbosseecontee by boat and spend your nights on Manitou Island. Swimming, boating, nature, and camp fires every single day. Perfection!

Volunteer Training & Summer Staff Jobs
Calling all Deans and Counselors!

The 2019 Faith Formation Training for volunteers from both Pilgrim Lodge and Horton Center will be March 21-23 at the Oceanwood Retreat Center in Ocean Park, Maine. The "Deans' Retreat" for one night has been replaced this year with a two-night training for both Deans and Counselors. We will be learning from some of our most experienced volunteers and staff.

Topics include:
  • How faith formation happens at camp
  • How best to create engaging and life-affirming worship
  • Ways to incorporate music and art into the camper week
  • Activities to help us fall again in love with creation
  • What it Means to be Peacemakers - summer curriculum introduction

The training is free to participants. Donations to cover the cost to Pilgrim Lodge and Horton Center are welcomed and not required. Contact Karen Steelhammer, Registrar, at Pilgrim Lodge at 207-724-3200 to sign up.
