OCTOBER 5, 2023

Dear Pleasantville Pre-K Families,

I would like to provide an update on the status and upcoming timeline for launching prekindergarten for January 2024.

Step 1: Registration Period from October 10, 2023 through October 20, 2023

Click here for the PreKindergarten Registration Information. Once you have registered online, you can bring the required documents to the District Office at 60 Romer Avenue between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Registration is NOT on a first come first serve basis. The date you register will NOT impact your access to Pre-K.

In order to successfully register, you will need to demonstrate three things:

  • Your child must turn 4 years old on or before December 1, 2023 in order to be eligible for Pre-K in the 2023-2024 school year.
  • You must prove you are a current resident of the Pleasantville Union Free School District.
  • Your child’s annual physical and immunization schedule must be compliant.

The District will evaluate all registration packets and ensure the age and residency requirements are met. YMCA will evaluate the medical information to ensure compliance.

Please be reminded, both transportation and snacks/lunch are the family’s responsibility.

Step 2: Visitation at Holy Name of Jesus, Valhalla on October 26, 2023 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Registered parents/guardians are invited (not required) to visit the school site at 2 Broadway, Valhalla, NY 10595. The YMCA staff and I will be there to discuss the program with you.

Only families that have completed the registration process, including providing proof of birth date, residency and medical documentation will be invited to attend the visitation. Due to space restrictions, this is an adult only visit.

Step 3: Lottery on October 27, 2023 for the available openings in the program

Each student that has completed the registration process will be assigned a lottery number. Families will be notified of their lottery number on October 30, 2023.

The first 32 draws (2 classes) will be offered seats in the program. Everyone else will be waitlisted. If an offered seat is declined by the family, the next child on the waitlist will be notified until we have all 32 seats filled.

Commitment to the program is required. Students must attend the program for at least five hours (9 a.m. to 2 p.m.) on all days it is in session. The program will follow the school district calendar. Any additional hours of childcare by the YMCA will be directly between the YMCA and the family.

If for some reason there are less than 32 students enrolled, we may not be able to open both classes.

Step 4: Launch of the Pleasantville UPK program on January 3, 2024

We are so excited to bring this opportunity to the community. If you have any questions about registration, please contact our office at 914-741-1400, ext.10514 or email Angelique Seitz-Pena - Pleasantville Union Free School District.

We look forward to the start of a bright future for you and your student and look forward to welcoming you to the district.

For the youth,

Dr. Tina DeSa

Superintendent of Schools
