Bedford Road School Celebrates World Read Aloud Day

Students at Bedford Road School were treated to guest readers throughout the day as part of their celebration of World Read Aloud Day.

Since its inception in 2010, World Read Aloud Day has served as a reminder of the importance of literacy, acknowledging it as a fundamental human right. It also pays homage to the timeless tradition of oral storytelling, which predates the written word and has been instrumental in passing down knowledge, cultural heritage and familial tales, and inspiring creativity and sharing insights.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Tina DeSa enjoyed her time reading Beatrice Doesn’t Want To to Debbie Anttila’s kindergarten class.

In every classroom, members of the community and district staff shared their love of reading with the students. Among them were familiar faces such as librarians from the Mount Pleasant Library; the local crossing guard; local police officers; Board of Education trustees; and district administrators, including principals, assistant principals, and even the superintendent.

The celebration aimed to foster a deeper appreciation for reading and highlighted the importance of storytelling to enhance our understanding of the world around us.

Michael Busch, president of the PUFSD Board of Education, shares the classic children’s book, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day with first graders in Samantha Tanner’s class.

Third graders in Christine Harris’ class were treated to guest Board of Education Trustee Erin Ballard’s reading of Secret Pizza Party.
