SEPTEMBER 6, 2023

Dear Pleasantville Families,

Welcome back! It was wonderful to see students and their families make their way to our schools. Class time has been well spent on things like getting to know one another, learning where the nurse’s office is, how to open a locker, what texts will be read and sharing expectations for the year ahead. First days of school excitement has been palpable in each building by both the staff and students.

Whether your child is starting kindergarten or their senior year, there is much to look forward to as all students begin new chapters academically, socially, emotionally, and in extracurricular and athletic endeavors. I wish you and your children a safe and successful school year.

I hope you enjoy and embrace the organized chaos of these first few days and are ready to take on new challenges, and continue to learn.

Here’s to an exciting new school year!

For the youth,

Dr. Tina DeSa

Superintendent of Schools

Back-to-School

On a day that felt more like summer than fall, Pleasantville Schools opened their doors yesterday to welcome students back. School staff greeted both familiar and new faces, and conversations ranged from anxious voices concerned about what lies ahead, to reassurances that school will be amazing, to friends yelling excited and happy greetings to one another. What was consistent were the smiles and greetings shared by all staff and even the law enforcement officers, who were on hand to greet students.

COVID Protocol

As you have probably heard, COVID cases are on the rise again. Please review the district’s COVID protocol to ensure a safe learning environment for students and staff.

  • If your child tests positive, contact the school, and begin the isolation period.
  • Isolation is a minimum of five days (beginning on the day after the positive test date).
  • After five days (no sooner than day 6), return to school only if symptom-free.
  • The district requirement to return to school after any illness includes being fever free without fever-reducing medication for 24 hours and with symptoms improving, including 24 hours without diarrhea or vomit.
  • Upon returning to school, face coverings should be worn through day 10.
