PortSide News
PortSide's fundraiser Red & White Ball has been postponed until next year. There were too many non-profit competing events in Red Hook at about the same time, and Sandy recovery impacts on us and our community partners called for giving this more planning time.  Besides, it will be more fun in the spring!

PortSide has come ashore!
Due to the sudden growth of our staff, we have moved to a pop-up Red Hook office until early November in a loft at 57 Commerce Street, between Van Brunt & Richard Streets.  Pop on by!

Once our new crew all have TWIC cards and can access our shipboard offices without an escort, we can move the office back aboard. However, the access to the community is so great for us, we'd love to find another pop-up spot. Get in touch if you have suggestions. In the meantime, thanks again to the Port Authority for allowing us to use their Pier 9B for the Mary Whalen while we look for a publicly-accessible berth.

The PortSide crew grows!
We have a powerhouse consultant in Bart Morrison. He was brought to PortSide via JumpStartNYC. This is the third time PortSide has been selected to participate in JumpStart.  You can hire him after he's done with us!

We have our first Red Hook intern via RHI in Melanie Murrell! We introduced her to the harbor and historic ships right away by getting her some time at the helm when we helped take the tug PILOT up the Hudson to Kingston.

PortSide is honored to have been accepted into the CUNY Service Corps program.  CUNY was inspired to create this program by seeing the volunteer response to Sandy.  PortSide has five CUNY Service Corps workers with us for the entire academic year thanks to this program.  More on them in the next newsletter.
