On November 5, school district residents will vote on an operating levy proposal that will revoke the current referendum revenue authorization and replace it with a new one.

The ballot explains that passage of the referendum will result in an increase in your property taxes, as follows: “PASSAGE OF THIS REFERENDUM WILL RESULT IN AN INCREASE IN YOUR PROPERTY TAXES.” On October 28, the district learned that while this language is allowable under Minn. Stat., Sec. 126C.17, subd.9(b) in the legal notice that was mailed to the community, the ballot itself must follow similar but not identical language under Minn. Stat., Sec. 275.60 with the following language appearing in capitalized, boldface type, “BY VOTING "YES" ON THIS BALLOT QUESTION, YOU ARE VOTING FOR A PROPERTY TAX INCREASE.”

While the current ballot contains the legal notice language and not the required ballot language, the message remains consistent: a 'Yes' vote on this referendum proposal will result in a property tax increase. We appreciate your understanding. For information about the levy proposal, visit www.plsas.org/referendum.

E-STEM in action

Redtail Ridge first graders are diving into their E-STEM journey with creativity and enthusiasm! Last week, the first grade classes designed and built their very own scarecrows, combining engineering skills with fun. After completing their unique creations, the students proudly displayed them for their peers, sparking curiosity and learning across the school.

Unified Program

This school year, Prior Lake High School proudly expanded its Unified Champion School program, a Special Olympics initiative that promotes inclusion for students of all abilities. In the 2024-25 school year, students can now join two elective classes through the program: Physical Education (offered in quarters 1, 2 and 4) and Family and Consumer Science (offered in quarter 3).

Through Unified programming, students with and without special needs are paired as "buddies," creating a welcoming space for everyone. These connections have sparked new friendships, strengthened leadership skills and helped students develop valuable social skills as they learn and grow together.

Laker Hall of Fame

The Laker Hall of Fame inducted the Class of 2024 on Homecoming weekend. The inductees were announced and honored at the Homecoming football game and were officially inducted into the Hall of Fame at an awards dinner. It was a wonderful opportunity to honor the achievements of so many PLHS alumni and celebrate their contributions.
