Fitness Tips from RTC Instructor, Mindy Thiesen

High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is a great way to improve athletic performance, boost metabolism, lower blood pressure, and improve blood sugar regulation.  HIIT is composed of work intervals ( 10 sec- 5 mins duration) and rest intervals (10 sec- 5 mins duration). Work and rest intervals depend on fitness level, length of workout, and exercise being performed.

In order to get the benefits of interval training, you need to do it properly. That is, during the work intervals, be sure to go all out and give 100% effort before the next rest interval. Your work interval should feel quite uncomfortable, so that you really need that rest interval. This is how you will truly reap the benefits of improved fitness, athletic performance, and metabolic boost.

Note: Beginners should start slowly, with shorter work intervals and longer rest intervals.

Join Mindy every Saturday at 9am in the RTC gym for a fun strength & conditioning class that includes HIITs!
