A NEW YEAR BRINGS NEW THINGS...

As we begin the journey that will be 2016, we pause to reflect on 2015. As we reflect on the year just past, we recall that we gathered to worship for almost 120 times counting special worship celebrations, we said hello to some new faces and bade farewell to some familiar faces, we prayed together, laughed and cried together. We studied together, served together and sought to be faithful in living out our shared commitment to making disciples and transforming lives. Thank you for your faithful support of our shared ministry that made 2015 a great year of Kingdom building!   Read the full article

ART SUPPLIES NEEDED!

Dear Church Members,

My name is Alyssa and I would like to take a moment of your time to discuss a local need in our community. The Boys and Girls Club in South Rome lost their art director earlier this summer and do not have the funds to continue the program. I have chosen to earn the Girl Scout's highest award, the Gold Award, by meeting thisneed and providing approximately 50 young children at the club, an after- school art program beginning early next year. I ask for your support as I gather the funds and art supplies needed to sustain the program. Providing the less advantaged young people in our community experience with hands-on art expression adds much to their self-esteem and helps them become the well-rounded people God intends them each to be.

If you would like to donate art supplies they can be left at the church office. If you would like more information on how you might make an "art difference" with these children you can request my contact information from the church.

Art supplies needed include - paint brushes, binders, canvases, water color sets, paper and Tempura or acrylic paints. If you enjoy doing art as a hobby, you might find participating in one of the sessions particularly rewarding.

ROME FIRST INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY

Should weather conditions make it possible that church activities will be cancelled, please check the following sources: Rome First Facebook page, WRGA AM-1470, Hometown Headlines (johndruckenmiller.com), and WXIA - 11Alive TV. If church activities are cancelled, we will notify these media outlets as quickly as possible. Note that a decision to cancel will impact all activities. Also, remember that the Preschool functions independently and follows the Rome City Schools cancellation schedule.

2016 HOLY LAND TRIP

Would you like to walk where Jesus walked? Can you imagine standing on the mount where Jesus gave hisfamous sermon? Rev. Jamie Jenkins and his wife Lena are leading a 12 day trip to the Holy Land in September 2016. Visiting the Holy Land will change how you read the Bible forever and give you a new perspective on our Christian faith and history. Several people from Rome First travelled on Rev. Jenkins' 2015 trip and had a fantastic experience. If you would like to learn more, contact Rev. Chris Barbieri at chris.barbieri@ngumc.net.

KIDNEY DONOR NEEDED

A member of our community is looking for a kidney donor with Type A or Type O blood.  Rome First has been asked to help communicate this need.  If you might be interested, please call Barbara O'Neal at Piedmont Hospital to have a confidential conversation about what is involved with being a donor.  Her number is 404-605-4128.  If you talk with Mrs. O'Neal and decide you want to move forward, please let one of our pastors know and we will connect you with the person in need.

SUPPORT ROME FIRST BY SHOPPING!

Did you know there are three ways you can support Rome First UMC by shopping?  First, if you have a Kroger Plus card, you can link this to the Kroger community rewards program.  A portion of what you spend at Kroger will be donated back to the church to support our ministries. Go to www.krogercommunityrewards.com and either sign in or create an account.  Once you've done this, select
Community right-arrow-icon4.gif Community Rewards at the top of the page.  On the next screen, you will enter our non-profit number: 37489.  We are listed as First United Methodist Church (if more than one are listed, be sure you pick the one with the Rome address!).  That's it.  Every time you use your Kroger Plus card, you'll automatically be supporting Rome First.  Be sure to share this with your church friends who shop at Kroger.

Rome First is also a part of Amazon.com's "Smile" program.  If you shop at Amazon regularly, please be sure go to www.smile.amazon.com and select Rome First as your charity of choice.  A portion of your purchase will be donated back to Rome First.  Again, we are listed as First United Methodist Church
(Rome GA).

A third way to shop and support Rome First is through UMC Market.  Hundreds of online stores participate in this program and donate a portion of your purchase back to Rome First.  Simply create an account at www.umcmarket.org, select Rome First UMC as your charity, and then go to this site first whenever you are shopping online.
