He will offer occasional "tweets" that are intended to be encouraging,

DID YOU NOTICE???

Because of your Faithfulness and support of the "It's in Your Hands" Capital Campaign - The Wilder Center Lights, Sound and Technology upgrades and improvements? The upgrades were almost complete for our Vision Celebration on Sunday, August 21. The final touches have been made and the Wilder Center light/sound and technology upgrade is complete.

The Sanctuary also received a Sound upgrade. New Speakers and a new sound control board will insure that every seat in the Sanctuary has crisp, clear sound. There also have been some Accessibility modifications in the Sanctuary. There are two "new" seating areas designated for individuals with mobility challenges. With the renovations to the Pipe Organ complete the worship experience in the historic, vintage Sanctuary at Rome First will be unparralled in all of Rome.

Thank You to those who supported the "It's in Your Hands" - Capital Campaign. If you did not make a pledge or commitment to the campaign, it's not too late!

The last remaining "BIG" item for the Capital Campaign is the addition of a third landing for the existing
elevator and a new entrance into the chancel space. This project is on hold, because of insufficient funding from the Capital Campaign. If you would like to make a designated gift in support of the elevator and
accessibility project, please mark your gift Capital Campaign - Elevator.

"LINKED-IN - UNITED FOR THE FUTURE"

Prayers - Time - Talent - Gifts
2017 Stewardship Commitment +
Rome First

"LINKED-IN - United for the Future" is the theme for the 2017 Stewardship emphasis for 2017 at Rome First.

Together the individual members of Rome First comprise the 'body of Christ" at Rome First. Beginning September 1, 2016, you will have the opportunity to "link" your commitment to the commitments of other members of Rome First so that the mission and ministry of Rome First continues to be vibrant, strong and transformative!

During the month of September you will receive your Linked IN commitment card in the mail. Also, you will have the opportunity to take "links" that are different colors and have space for you to write in your name on to give of yourself, in an outward and tangible way, through the areas of commitment:
Prayers-Time-Talent-Gifts. A paper chain "link" will then be created to make a visible reminder to be displayed in the Wilder Center and the Welcome Area of the Administration Building.

The following time-line is attached for your information and future reference.

August 30 - One Board, Staff and leadership start the "chain"
September 1 - E-mail, mail "Linked-In" packs to every member
October 9 - Commitment Sunday - Cards "turned in" & chains made
October 10 - follow-up letters/e-mails
October 24 - Follow-up calls for families not yet committed
October 30 - Celebration Sunday - report to congregation the  commitments for
"Linked In" - Time - Talent - Tithe -  Prayers.
November 1 - Follow-up report to congregation in Herald

UPCOMING WORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Some folks get up early - if that's you, then the season of Advent will afford you an opportunity to worship in the Sanctuary at 8:30 AM. During the season of ADVENT we will be doing a "preview" of possible worship options at ROME FIRST. Beginning at 8:30 AM - "FIRST LIGHT"- an informal/traditional service will feature familiar hymns, a time of corporate prayer, an inspirational message and the celebration of Holy Communion every Sunday. If that sounds like it would be "right up your alley" then mark your calendar for November 27 @ 8:30 AM and come join fellow followers in the historic/vintage Sanctuary.

Some folks like to get up just a little later - SO, for the season of Advent, the Contemporary Worship held in the Wilder Center will begin at 10:50. The Contemporary worship experience will be identical to its current style with praise and worship music, Crossroads Cafè, and engaging messages, only at a later hour.

The Traditional Worship experience held in the historic/vintage Sanctuary at 11:00 AM will continue to be held at 11 AM full of the beautiful surroundings, glorious choral music, grand organ accompaniment and rich  traditions that make worship at Rome First a not to be missed weekly event.

The transitions between these three worship experience will be "seamless and invisible" for you as a
worshipper. The Pastors, staff, musicians and support personnel will work behind the scenes to continue to insure that the worship experience is a sacred and meaningful experience - All about Glorifying God!

Mark your calendars and during the Season of Advent (November 27 - December 18) plan on attending one of the excellent opportunities to gather and glorify God through worship at Rome First.

CHRISTMAS EVE SERVICES will be at 5PM & 11 PM in the Vintage Historic Sanctuary. Candle Light and Communion at both services. Mark your calendar and start inviting your friends, neighbors and family!
ALSO - looking ahead CHRISTMAS DAY IS A SUNDAY! And yes we will have worship on Christmas DAY! One service of worship at 10 AM in the Wilder Center!

NEW BOOK STUDY

They are simple phrases. They sound Christian, like something you might find in the Bible. We've all heard these words. Maybe we've said them. They capture some element of truth, yet they miss the point in important ways. Join Adam Hamilton in this short Bible study to search for the whole truth by comparing common Christian clichés with the wisdom found in Scripture.

True or false:
1. Everything happens for a reason.
2. God helps those who help themselves.
3. God won't give you more than you can handle.
4. God said it, I believe it, that settles it.
5. Love the sinner, hate the sin.

All true? Not so fast. We've heard these phrases all of our lives, but
in Adam Hamilton's new book, Half Truths, you'll learn that although
they capture some element of truth, when compared to the wisdom
found in Scripture, they're really just popular sayings.

The schedule for the "Half Truths" book study is listed below. There
are two identical class offerings; an evening class, facilitated by
Evan McElreath, and a daytime class facilitated by LaDonna Sawyer.

EVENING STUDY
The evening study, facilitated by Evan McElreath, Director of Youth & Mission, will begin mid October.

DAY STUDY
Thursdays from 9:30AM until 11:00AM in the Dining Room.
Facilitated by: LaDonna Sawyer Director of Hospitality and Connection.
Class dates: 9/1, 9/8, 9/15, 9/22, 9/29, 10/6

Sign up through the church office by calling 706.291.8590, emailing churchoffice@romefirst.org, or register online at www.romefirst.org/study-groups

KIDNEY DONOR NEEDED

A member of our community is looking for a kidney donor with Type A or Type O blood.  Rome First has been asked to help communicate this need.  If you might be interested, please call Barbara O'Neal at Piedmont Hospital to have a confidential conversation about what is involved with being a donor.  Her number is 404-605-4128.  If you talk with Mrs. O'Neal and decide you want to move forward, please let one of our pastors know and we will connect you with the person in need.

SUPPORT ROME FIRST BY SHOPPING!

Did you know there are three ways you can support Rome First UMC by shopping?  First, if you have a Kroger Plus card, you can link this to the Kroger community rewards program.  A portion of what you spend at Kroger will be donated back to the church to support our ministries. Go to www.krogercommunityrewards.com and either sign in or create an account.  Once you've done this, select
Community right-arrow-icon4.gif Community Rewards at the top of the page.  On the next screen, you will enter our non-profit number: 37489.  We are listed as First United Methodist Church (if more than one are listed, be sure you pick the one with the Rome address!).  That's it.  Every time you use your Kroger Plus card, you'll automatically be supporting Rome First.  Be sure to share this with your church friends who shop at Kroger.

Rome First is also a part of Amazon.com's "Smile" program.  If you shop at Amazon regularly, please be sure go to www.smile.amazon.com and select Rome First as your charity of choice.  A portion of your purchase will be donated back to Rome First.  Again, we are listed as First United Methodist Church
(Rome GA).

A third way to shop and support Rome First is through UMC Market.  Hundreds of online stores participate in this program and donate a portion of your purchase back to Rome First.  Simply create an account at www.umcmarket.org, select Rome First UMC as your charity, and then go to this site first whenever you are shopping online.
