We hope you will join us for Root's Third Annual Celebration on Wednesday, December 5th!

Last year's event was a great success, and we were thrilled to have nearly 275 friends and supporters with us to celebrate the completion of our beautiful facilities and honor Salem Mayor Kim Driscoll with our Community Leadership Award. The Mayor will return as our host for the evening, and we are looking forward to sharing and celebrating the many milestones we achieved this year!
Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities at Root
Mock Interviews
Date: Tuesday, October 16th, 2018
Time: 12:15 PM to 2 PM
Location: Root

A critical component of Root's Youth Job Training Program is providing a supportive environment where young people can learn and test out life skills, starting with the basics of showing up on time and building toward receiving a job offer.  The youth practice public speaking throughout the program, and we are looking for 12-15 volunteers to join us for an afternoon of mock-interviewing to provide the young people with an opportunity to practice these skills.

Volunteers will meet as a group for a brief training and lunch, and then be paired with a Program Partner for a one-on-one interview. After the interviews, volunteers will regroup for a short debriefing session and to share feedback. For more information contact Program Director Beth Alaimo at balaimo@RootNS.org.

Guest Chef Program Off to a Great Start!
Root Program Partners had the opportunity to work with two professional chefs this past month as part of our Guest Chef Program, Executive Chef Peter Munroe of Chrissi's Cafe & Ipswich Shellfish Fish Market and Award-winning journalist and cookbook author Nina Simonds, who is one of the country’s top authorities on Asian cooking. Thank you to Peter and Nina for sharing their expertise in the kitchen, introducing new ingredients and techniques, and sharing their stories and experience from the field.

Part of preparing our young people for success in the workplace is exposing them to a variety of different styles of cuisines and workplace environments. Through field trips, the externship program, and guest chefs joining us in the Root kitchen, Program Partners have the opportunity to learn about different career paths within the culinary industry. If you are interested and have an afternoon available, please contact Program Director, Beth Alaimo, at balaimo@RootNS.org for more information.
