Advisory Committee and Working Group Members Sought

In 2014, SCRLC's Board of Trustees held regional conversations to gain member input regarding the direction of the Council and staffing. The Board, SCRLC staff, and advisory committee members reviewed and further discussed the findings at a retreat in June, 2014. Among the topics discussed was the advisory committee structure, i.e., that the current advisory committee structure led to silos and was staff intensive; perhaps having one SCRLC Advisory Committee with working groups and SIGs would be more effective. In 2015, the Council adopted this model.

As a result, SCRLC seeks a few at-large advisory committee members and also some working group members. The current working groups are: Advocacy, Digitizing, Education, Hospital Library Services Program, Information Technology and Services, and Resource Sharing. You can check out the various groups' roles and activities at  https://scrlc.org/Programs--Services/Recent-Presentations/About. Working group members may also participate on the over-arching advisory committee.

Serving on the advisory committee or working group is a voluntary effort and a very rewarding one. Through participation, you will experience excellent networking opportunities while impacting regional and statewide programs, service, and policies. If you are interested, contact Mary-Carol Lindbloom at mclindbloom@scrlc.org or 607-273-9106 x203.

Member Collection Featured in NY Heritage Blog
NY Heritage is celebrating National Handwriting Day by featuring the Papers of Jessie Elvira Jenks from the Greater Oneonta Historical Society collection on its blog. The diary, along with letters written to Willard S. Jenks and his wife, Rhoda, from their daughter, Jessie, is part of a larger collection which was donated to the Greater Oneonta Historical Society by the Jenks family. In addition to the letters and three journals Jessie kept, there were teaching contracts, report cards, recommendations, resumes, newspaper clippings, and stacks of letters from 1892 to 1894 and 1930. Jessie lived from 1873-1964.
