Thank you La Montanita Co-op!
Every month, La Montañita sponsors a local community-based organization through their Donate-a-Dime bag program. When you bring your own bag, you reduce your carbon footprint, and La Montañita  donates a dime to a worthy organization! SHC-NM was the recipient of these funds for December 2016.

We'd like to thank La Montañita for their support of our efforts to Strike Out Homelessness every year and especially for this year's Donate-A-Dime proceeds.

As we begin this new year, we hope you will continue to join us in our mission to change lives. Because that is what we do - we provide a safe place for someone to heal and thrive. And that place is permanent, their very own. Whether it is through rental assistance, move-in and eviction prevention, crisis housing, or affordable housing, SHC-NM is committed to ending homelessness.

There are many ways you can help us: read and share this newsletter, volunteer for the board, a committee, or a work day, donate to our organization, or simply share our mission and vision with your friends and neighbors. We appreciate all you do to spread the word that Housing First is the key to ending homelessness. Let's make it a great year!

Move-In Baskets for Newly Housed Tenants
SHC-NM advocates for and builds grass roots awareness for Housing First, the nationally recognized, evidence-based approach to reducing homelessness through its school and business based  "Housing First! The Key is Housing" Service-Learning and Community Outreach programs.  Our objective is to expand public awareness and support for Housing First as the dominant public policy strategy for ending homelessness.

One of our most popular outcomes of this effort is the Welcome Home Basket Project where area schools and community organizations run donation drives for tenant Welcome Home Baskets. These baskets are filled with items a newly-housed individual or family can use to get a new start. For a complete list of items needed, to donate to the project, or to request a presentation for your organization, click HERE.
