BAY FLIGHT 2019 - Call for Presenters
BAY FLIGHT 2019 the one-day pilot conference for SF Bay Area pilots has issued a call for presenters.  As part of the mission to bring together the best aviation speakers of the area,  BAY FLIGHT 2019 organizers invited local pilots and aviation organizations to submit suggests for presentations and presenters. The conference has filled most of the 16 one-hour presentation slots but has reserved a handful for public requested content.

If you know of a speaker with a compelling message for SF Bay Area pilots, please email us at info@bayflight19.com and submit your presentation proposal.  Presentations can be educational, general interest, new aviation technology, or other hot topics in general aviation.

Expanding SCFC Fleet and Aircraft Ownership
The San Carlos Flight Center fleet continues to expand, giving SCFC members access to the largest variety for aircraft rental of any flying club on the field. We have recently added two C172 P models, another C152, and there are more coming. Check out the fleet aircraft collector pins for the new aircraft to see the cool colors and designs.

For many pilots, investigating aircraft ownership is a way to deepen their connection to aviation, and learn a whole new perspective on aircraft maintenance and airworthiness. Due to a variety of reasons, some owners of fleet aircraft get to a point where their next step involves selling their share to a new owner. If you are interested in learning more about how you can become whole or part owner of an SCFC fleet aircraft, and possibly decrease your overall cost of flying, come talk to our Fleet Management office.

7th Anniversary Challenge
Are you ready for the SCFC Noise Abatement Knowledge Quiz? Draw the KSQL noise abatement procedures and earn your SCFC 7th anniversary pin! SCFC members are among the best trained in the area and we take pride in flying safely as well as neighborly. Show your expertise by precisely drawing the noise abatement procedure on the map in the office and if you are within the tolerances, you will earn the SCFC 7th anniversary pin. This contest will be available for the entire month of June so stop by the front desk on your next flight and take the challenge!

Summer in the Northern Rockies
In a few weeks, summer begins and it will be a hot one. Why not go where the cool air lives?  Mountain flying can provide stunning views rarely seen by anyone other than pilots, and can give you a lifetime of memories.  It can be done safely as long you as you plan ahead, and remember some basic safety rules.

Mountains and ridges change the direction and intensity of winds, which means avoiding flight when winds across the ridges are 20 knots or more. Our oxygen-starved normally aspirated engines are no match for strong updrafts or downdrafts, so you should always plan a route that gives you escape options and know which way to turn. And don't forget the humans! Our need for oxygen is constant even when outside air pressures decrease. SCFC has loaner oxygen equipment to use on your trip. Use it early and often.

For those of you heading to Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks, it's going to be a beautiful trip of mountain flying adventures. Stay safe and bring us home another great set of stories and photos.

FLAG: Pilots N Paws
June 5 (Wed) 7:00pm
Pilots N Paws is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that connects volunteers engaged in rescuing, sheltering, and adopting animals. Volunteer pilots and plane owners assist with animal transportation (a.k.a. "Freedom Flights") and coordinate with volunteers on the ground to get rescue animals to appropriate shelters, foster homes, adoptive families, and sometimes specialized veterinary care.

This seminar, appropriate for both newer and more experienced pilots, will provide information on Pilots N Paws as well as best practices for public benefit flying - safety considerations, tips for coordinating with ground volunteers, and how to keep "furry passengers" comfortable.

Community
Schools out for the Summer - Welcome summer staff
SCFC is all about Safety, Adventure and Community. One aspect of community involves bringing in members that have been away at school and having them help out at the Flight Center. When you come in to fly this summer, you will see the following new faces working at the Flight Center:
  • Travis Bender, a junior at the University of Puget Sound, returning to help out with Front Desk, social media, and planning for BAY FLIGHT 2019
  • Alex Strehlow, a sophomore at University of Michigan, assisting the the MX team
  • Brandon Dadoun, helping the Flight Line team keep our aircraft clean
  • Patrick Shea, former Upwind recipient, joining the Flight Instructor team
  • Devin Chu, SCFC member helping with Front Desk on the weekends

Join the EAA and SCFC Pilots in Helping Young Eagles Take Flight
Have you ever taken a kid on their first flight? As a pilot, having the opportunity to ignite the passion for aviation in a young person's soul means the world, but you need to keep in mind that safety always comes first. With new passengers, a pilot needs to take many safety precautions.

To learn more about flying a Young Eagles flight, join us on Wednesday June 12, at 7:00pm when EAA Chapter 20's president Oliver Coolidge and member Elizabeth Dougherty cover the procedures to safely conduct an EAA Young Eagles flight. You will review passenger management techniques and get prepared for San Carlos Flight Center and EAA Chapter 20's joint Young Eagles event on June 15th.
