Sheriff's Deputies risk their lives every day in the line of duty. On February 28, 2010, Deputy Ken Collier was killed while trying to stop a drunk driver who was going the wrong way on Highway 52 in Santee.
Help us stop drunk driving by joining our team in the Walk Like MADD. We will walk in honor of Ken and other deputies who took the oath to serve and protect our communities at all costs. To learn more about Ken and other deputies who made the ultimate sacrifice, visit our website.

Three minutes later cops will start the race after receiving a call about a robbery in progress. Jaywalkers will then follow the cops. There are prizes for the top finishers. The San Diego County Sheriff's Department maintains a FREE and CONFIDENTIAL database of people who may not be able to speak to first responders if they get lost or wander away. The registry is for people with physical or mental challenges, disabilities or medical conditions (i.e. autism, Alzheimer's, Down Syndrome, etc.). This regional database is accessible only to law enforcement agencies.
The Take Me Home registry stores photos and emergency contact information of people who are at risk. It also lists whether they are verbal or non-verbal, if they have serious health concerns such as seizures or take medications, how they react under stress, how to approach them, as well as special care instructions.
If a person at risk goes missing or wanders away, their photo and special care instruction are immediately available to help with the search.

A public safety message regarding Wireless Emergency Alerts
|
|
It's a message that could save your life in extreme weather or emergencies. It's called a Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA). The free alerts are sent to your cell phone with a jarring tone to get your attention in a critical situation and urge you to take action. Most smart phones are WEA capable, and no registration is required. You will only receive alerts during a large scale incident such as a wildfire. The message is limited to 90 characters. There are no photos or web links. Click on the image above to watch a public safety message about WEA or follow us on .
To learn more about WEA, click here.
October is National Fire Prevention Month. Make sure your home is ready in case of an emergency. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) says cooking, heating and electrical equipment, as well as candles and smoking materials are the leading causes of home fires. There should be at least one smoke detector on each level of your home. You should test them every month and replace the batteries annually. To learn more on how you can be ready for the next wildfire, click here.
